Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the National Director of Annual Giving the Director of Annual Giving will play a crucial role in expanding the National Wild Turkey Federation's (NWTF) donor base within the Mid-Atlantic territory, which includes North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware. 


Key responsibilities include:

1. Donor Management: Oversee a portfolio of existing donors and prospects, nurturing relationships to enhance engagement and retention.

2. Strategy Development: Create and implement targeted strategies to acquire new donors and upgrade current ones with a focus on annual giving ($2,000-$10,000) and major gifts (commitments from $5,000-$50,000).

3. Collaboration: Work closely with NWTF team members, volunteers and state board members to coordinate fundraising efforts to help maximize our donor’s impact for the NWTF’s mission. 

4. Annual Giving Clubs and Major Donor Program: Utilize established annual giving clubs and major donor levels to drive fundraising initiatives and donor engagement.

5. Special Events and Projects: Will serve as the driving force in the creation and execution of donor cultivation events, while also providing support for special projects as needed contributing to the overall mission of the NWTF.

This role requires a proactive approach to relationship-building and a strong understanding of fundraising principles to effectively increase philanthropic giving within the designated territory.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify, qualify, cultivate and solicit major and annual gifts from individuals, foundations and corporations that are part of the regional prospect portfolio to support the conservation and hunting heritage mission of NWTF.
  • Coordinate with field operations, conservation and other development staff to secure funding for NWTF’s highest priorities to include support for operations, NWTF lead initiatives, state level initiatives and hunter recruitment, education and youth programs.
  • Collaborate with field operations and conservation staff to educate NWTF volunteers and supporters about NWTF’s annual giving and major donor program. 
  • Collaborate with field operations staff to assist in achieving all annual fundraising goals.
  • Track outcomes of prospect qualification, cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation.
  • Create and achieve goals in annual work plan.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough notes in our CRM relating to donors and prospects philanthropic engagement with the NWTF. 
  • Attend annual NWTF Convention, regional meetings and training opportunities, as necessary. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Commitment to personally cultivating, soliciting, and closing major gift commitments.
  • Strong planning, organization, leadership, and management skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in using Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other software.
  • Experience in using computer-based information systems in support of fundraising programs.
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively in performance of responsibilities. 
  • The selected candidate will have a strong affinity for NWTF’s mission of securing the future of conservation and our hunting heritage. They will be a self-starter who can work independently as well as part of a team and is driven to succeed.      Knowledge of the region’s philanthropic community and interest in outdoor conservation and hunting activities are also desired. The successful candidate will be expected to reside in a mutually agreed upon location in the region.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office software, email, and Internet search
  • Valid drivers’ license


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • At least two years’ related experience required. 


Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Required travel within territory as needed. 
  • Must be able to lift up to fifteen pounds at times.
