This position is in Gainesville, Georgia.
Under the direction of the Director, with a dotted line to the Volunteer Manager at the Atlanta location, the Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for the overall management of the volunteer program, with diverse assignments ranging from administrative and education positions to gardening and grounds maintenance. This is a part-time position, Monday-Friday, with some evening and weekend duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Help staff to establish volunteer needs and train staff to utilize volunteers effectively
• Recruit volunteers. Annually increase the number of interested and enrolled volunteers as needed
• Interview and place volunteers in appropriate positions within the Garden
• Evaluate volunteer performance
• Track and evaluate results of recruitment and outreach efforts
• Work with volunteers and staff to address any concerns related to volunteers and volunteering at the Garden
• Develop and implement volunteer training programs
• Implement volunteer recognition programs, including an annual luncheon for the full volunteer force
• Manage an annual departmental budget
- Bachelor’s degree
- Two or more years experience recruiting, selecting, training and leading others to voluntary action
- Must display excellent communication and interpersonal skills while working with staff, volunteers, and visitors.
- An interest in gardening and horticulture.
- Punctual, reliable, and flexible.
- Must be able to lift 20 lbs. and work outdoors in extreme weather conditions.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule that includes Saturday or Sunday.
