JOB TITLE: SCHOOL-BASED MENTAL HEALTH THERAPIST 

DEPARTMENT: Behavioral Health Services

SUPERVISOR: School-Based Program Manager

EXEMPT/NON-EXEMPT: Nonexempt, fulltime

SUPERVISES: None

JOB SUMMARY:

Provide mental health treatment and community services in the school setting. Community-based services that support the family system may be provided. Provide developmentally appropriate practices to enable children, adolescents, and families to have their needs met and improve the quality of their lives. Applicable practices also include utilizing assessments to monitor treatment growth. As a member of the school-based team, you will provide support and take part in weekly consultation meetings—work within agency policies and procedures and state and federal statutes, and professional code of ethics.

  3. Maintain appropriate boundaries with clients and staff.
  4. Work on-site as necessary or remotely using telehealth technology as determined by management.

ESSENTIAL FUNTIONS:

The School-Based Therapist must be able to accomplish the following tasks either with or without reasonable accommodation:

  1. Provide direct mental health treatment to children, adolescents, and families, best practice treatment modalities within Agency philosophy and policies and within State and County guidelines.
  2. Provide face-to-face contact with consumers, their families, and community support; submit service reports daily. 
  3. Be able to develop good relationships and work effectively with School-Based Team Management, medical staff, professional and support staff, consumers, and community contacts. 
  4. Assist each client in developing a personalized Recovery Plan which includes identifying goals, objectives, strengths, and modes of treatment; develop a plan within 30 days of intake and update as needed.
  5. Plan, implement, and coordinate treatment to support client mental health. Monitor all documentation activities for each assigned client, keeping with Agency philosophy and policies, State and County guidelines; participate in QA activities; assure assigned consumer files are held at 90% compliance. 
  6. Participate in clinical planning, staff, and administration meetings as requested from schools; regularly attend and contribute at school meetings, participate in all meetings within 5 minutes of appointed time 90% of the time. 
  7. Attend professional conferences and workshops as appropriate to the responsibilities of the position and program needs.
  8. Maintain regular contact with the school-based therapist team.
  9. Be able to provide support to other clinicians and their consumers regarding parenting and child development issues.
  10. Be able to work in a multidisciplinary team.


Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. B.A. degree in Social Work, Counseling, or a related field, and certification as a Mental Health Professional
  2. Master’s degree in social work, Counseling, or related field. 
  3. A minimum of at least two years of experience working with at-risk kids. 
  4. Experience in providing counseling services to individuals, families, and groups.
  5. General knowledge of systemic approaches.
  6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, computer proficiency to document in the electronic medical record (EMR) and utilize telehealth and Microsoft office suite. 
  7. Undergo and pass a criminal background check upon initial employment and any subsequent statements required by the agency.
  8. Meet requirements of the agency’s drug-free workplace policy.
  9. Excellent customer service with a client focus.
  10. Able to sit, stand and move for long hours at a time and lift to 25 pounds.
  11. A valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
  12. Able to drive in daylight, darkness, and typical Northwest weather conditions.
  13. Meet the current Washington health care vaccination requirements for health care workers.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. General Systemic Knowledge.
  2. Experience working with children, adolescents, and families. 
  3. Child Mental Health Specialization.
  4. Experience providing treatment services in the community.
  5. Cultural competence-namely the impact culture has on the therapeutic relationship, including that of the therapist.
