Registered Nurse - Neurosurgery

Position Overview:

VSON is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to join our neurosurgery team as a Patient Care Coordinator. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring optimal patient care throughout the surgical process, from preoperative preparation to postoperative follow-up.


This is a Monday through Friday position with our busy neurosurgery team. The hours are expected to be 8a – 5p, with some exceptions. This position requires travel to Edwards and Frisco. Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct postoperative calls to assess patient recovery and address any concerns.
  • Assist Neurosurgeon with evaluation and management of spinal conditions
  • Perform incision checks and dressing changes as needed.
  • Coordinate and send clearance documentation to relevant facilities.
  • Assist the surgeon, practice manager, and physician assistant with administrative and patient care requests.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and manage scheduling for follow-up appointments.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure continuity of care.
  • Conduct research as required to support clinical practice and improve patient outcomes.
  • Obtain preoperative clearances and ensure timely completion of all necessary paperwork.
  • Monitor effectiveness of pain management interventions such as medication or spinal injections. 
  • Document examination results, treatment plans, and patients’ outcomes in a timely manner and within HCFA guidelines and audit requirements. 
  • Triage patient telephone calls and provides consultation, documenting as necessary in medical record.   
  • Provide monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits. 
  • Uses proper infection control procedures adopted by affiliated Surgery Centers and hospitals. 
  • Meet the Company’s expectations as described in the VSON Policies and Practices. 
  • Maintain confidentiality of Personal Identifiable Information (PII) in accordance with company Policies and State and Federal laws, including OHSA and HIPAA regulations.  
  • Perform job in accordance with all company safety practices. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • Knowledge      of the information, techniques and equipment needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures.  
  • Skill      in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. 
  • Ability      to use deductive reasoning to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense, as well as inductive reasoning to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (includes finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events). 
  • Knowledge      of medical safety hazards and precautions, and skill in applying principles of asepsis and infection control.  
  • Ability      to communicate with different audiences in a simple, clear and concise manner. 
  • Ability      to work under pressure and with strict deadlines. 
  • Ability      to identify confidentiality, discretion and judgment are needed, and exhibit these traits appropriately. 
  • Ability      to use information technology including email and web navigation, including Microsoft Suite programs. 
Requirements

  

Qualifications:

  • Current RN license in Colorado 
  • Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, preferably in a surgical or neurosurgical setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Proficient in electronic medical records (eCW) and other administrative software.
  • CPR and BLS certifications required.
