JOB DESCRIPTION: SURGICAL COORDINATOR
JOB SUMMARY
Assists in surgery scheduling, counseling of patients and completion of associated forms and certifications.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Greet patients in prompt, professional and personable manner.
- As appropriate, assists in screening patient phone calls or walk-ins and answering patient questions.
- Schedules all office and hospital surgery with pre-op and post-op follow up appointments. Prepares consent forms for patient signature for specific surgical procedures.
- Counsel patients regarding surgery and surgical insurance; both in office and by telephone. Initiates financial arrangements for patients when necessary.
- ASC schedules and paperwork are submitted accurately and in a timely manner.
- Ledgers are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
- De-escalate issues regarding upset or dissatisfied patients.
- Contacts patients and assures their compliance with pre-op orders.
- Professionally inform patients about co-pays, referral, payment policies and location information.
- Communicate effectively and demonstrates professionalism with referring doctors.
- Remain current on staff and physician schedules.
- Manages and prioritizes multiple tasks.
- Performs other job-related tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School graduate or equivalent
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in an ophthalmic practice.
- Demonstrates high standards of professionalism and ethics.
- Overall knowledge of medical terminology.
- Experience in using Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
- Exhibits good time management skills.
- Committed to ongoing learning.

- Strong organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in Outlook and Microsoft Office.
- Flexibility (may require some early mornings and evenings)
