INTRODUCTION:
The Bishop of Manchester is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the particular diocese entrusted to him. In a unique and visible way, he makes Christ’s mission present and enduring as Shepherd of the Christian Community. In order to fulfill his mission, the Bishop employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). He shares with them the apostolic mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.
Each position employed in the Diocese helps to extend the ministry of the Bishop in particular ways as outlined in the position description. All employees of the diocese assist the Bishop of Manchester in serving the parishes, schools and institutions of the Catholic Church in New Hampshire.
This is a temporary (summer) position reporting to the Diocesan Director of Parish Faith Formation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
- Missionaries must be available to attend Totus Tuus training June 4-13, 2025, at a location within New England.
- Also required is Diocesan Safe Environment training.
- This commitment will include travel and lodging with parish hosts for the summer.
- Take part in a rigorous community-based daily prayer and sacramental life throughout the summer, including Morning Prayer, Mass, Rosary, Divine Mercy Chaplet, Evening Prayer, spontaneous prayer, etc.
- Work closely with other team members throughout the summer
- Conduct oneself as a missionary disciple throughout the summer – to host families, those who volunteer at the parish, and the students who participate
- Speak at Sunday Masses to advertise the Totus Tuus program for the upcoming week
- Travel as a team to various parishes in New Hampshire and lodge with host families or at the parish rectory
- Prepare lesson plans for classes
- Teach 1st through 6th grade students about the Catholic faith during the day program
- Lead games, songs, and skits each week for first through sixth graders
- Teach 7th through 12th grade students about the Catholic faith during the evening program. This includes traditional content, and witness talks about the faith
- Lead 7th through 12th grade students in games and other activities during the evening program
- Communicate with parish coordinators each week to discuss details and make sure upcoming weeks run smoothly
- Uphold and put in to practice the teachings of the Catholic Church
- Comply with and model all local and diocesan guidelines and protocol regarding COVID-19
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- A joyful and enthusiastic approach to teaching
- Love of the Church and her teachings
- Be a practicing Catholic in accordance with Canon 874 §1, 3, 4 of the Code of Canon Law
- Valid driver’s license (strongly preferred)
- Experience working with children (preferred)
- Attend Totus Tuus training (Date of Training TBD)
- Complete our Diocesan Safe Environment program before training
- Be available for work from June 4 through Aug 2 (dates tentative)
ENVIRONMENT:
This position requires the ability to:
- Occasional moving, lifting, or carrying up to ten pounds
- Ability to tolerate prolonged sitting and/or standing
- Ability to lift up to approximately 25 pounds to waist high level whenever necessary
- Ability to reach at or above shoulder level, occasionally reaching below shoulder level
- Ability to manipulate equipment and controls frequently and occasionally grasp and handle some equipment
- Ability to travel throughout the diocese
- Ability to work a flexible schedule that will include some nights and weekends
- Mobility that includes regular sitting, some standing and walking
