Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the guidance of the Gymnastics/Program Director, the Gymnastics Instructor (Coach) teaches the competitive gymnastics team. The instructor is responsible for planning, organizing, and documenting each lesson.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Plan and teach the competitive team and/or pre-team. It is necessary to teach at least one of the following: pre-gym, instructional or progressive gymnastics class.
- Supervise “open gym” time.
- Supervise a birthday party according to the guidelines set forth in the manual.
- Complete all paperwork concerning USAG and AAU memberships and meet entries.
- Participate in parent conferences when the situation arises.
- Complete quarterly team student evaluations.
- Prepare for special program presentations including home meets.
- Monitors the area at all times to ensure safety, and immediately makes changes as necessary. Ensures the area is neat, orderly and free of all safety impediments.
- Provides a positive environment for all participants, and actively encourages participation to ensure growth and development.
- Exemplifies appropriate behavior and is a role model for participants; actively listens to all children and shows patience, understanding, and respect for others.
- Instructs and guides participants through the rules of the program and ensures adherence; disciplines children within established guidelines of the YMCA and parent, and only when appropriate.
- Immediately reports all unusual incidents or accidents to the Gymnastics Director, and fills out all applicable and necessary reports.
- Develops and fosters interpersonal relationships between participants, and is pro-active creating an environment of cooperation, friendliness, and helpfulness towards staff and customers.
- Ensures all necessary supplies are on hand and well maintained at all times.
- Attend scheduled staff meetings.
- Responsible for upholding all staff safety requirements including cleaning protocols throughout the day, as required by my department.

- While performing the duties of this job, the individual is required to perform a range of dance movements relative to the classes. Requires full range of motion, including manual and finger dexterity and hand and eye coordination.
- Requires corrected vision, speech, and hearing to normal range, or special accommodations made of sufficient nature for completion of assigned tasks. The employee frequently is required to reach, and must be able to move around the work environment.
- Ability to lift 30 pounds, bending reaching, and kneeling to execute routines and/or utilize equipment.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Successfully complete State of Florida Criminal History Background Check requirements as well as meet the Association’s policies on background screening
- Knowledge and understanding of skills and progressions regarding gymnastics class instruction
- Knowledge and understanding regarding the USAG Gymnastics guidelines, policies, and recommendations
- Knowledge and understanding regarding the AAU Gymnastics guidelines, policies, and recommendations
- Enthusiasm for the sport of gymnastics and children
- Able to prioritize and meet deadlines
- Able to maintain confidentiality
- Must be a self starter, with high energy and a positive attitude
- Adhere to drug/alcohol/smoke free workplace policy
CERTIFICATIONS AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
- All Star Cheer Coach experience required
- CPR and First Aid Certifications required
- Completion of YMCA of the USA Child Abuse and Neglect class
- Completion of the YMCA’s Blood Borne Pathogens training
- Excellent verbal and communication skills
- Staff Safety Requirements/Cleaning Protocols
- Additional training classes as recommended by Supervisor
Salary Description
$16.00 - $20.00/hour
