Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Labor & Employment Attorney to join our legal team. The ideal candidate will be a skilled advocate with a proven track record of defending employers against complex employment-related claims, particularly in California.


Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrating a high “HQ” (Hospitality Quotient) consisting of kindness & optimism, intellectual curiosity, work ethic,    empathy, self-awareness, and integrity. 
  • Aggressive Defense: Provide strategic legal counsel and representation in all phases of employment litigation, including pre-litigation investigation, discovery, motion practice, trial preparation, and appeals.
  • Proactive Legal Counsel: Advise management on a wide range of employment law issues, including wage and hour compliance, discrimination, harassment, wrongful termination, retaliation, and leave of absence laws.
  • Policy Development and Compliance: Draft, review, and update employment policies and procedures to ensure compliance    with federal, state, and local laws.
  • Risk Mitigation: Conduct regular risk assessments and implement proactive measures to minimize legal exposure.
  • Training and Education: Develop and deliver training programs to HR and management on employment law topics.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with HR and other business units to provide practical legal advice and support.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of 8-10 years of experience practicing employment law, with a strong emphasis on defense work.
  • Education: Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school. 
  • Certifications: Admitted to practice law in California. 
  • Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of California labor laws, including the California Labor Code, Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA), and Wage and Hour laws.
  • Skills:  
  • Proven ability to handle complex employment litigation matters, including class actions and PAGA claims.
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience handling investigations of workplace misconduct.
  • Knowledge of federal employment laws, including Title VII, the ADA, and the FMLA.
  • Experience with alternative dispute resolution (ADR) processes.

Physical Requirements

  • Work Environment: Primarily office-based, involving prolonged periods of sitting at a desk.
  • Computer Use: Frequent use of a computer for drafting documents, conducting research, and communicating via email.
  • Visual Acuity: Must be able to read and interpret legal documents, computer screens, and printed materials.
  • Manual Dexterity: Ability to use a keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment.
  • Mobility: Occasional walking, standing, and reaching within the office environment.
