Description

The primary role of the Regional EHS Manager – Americas will be to provide regional environmental, health, and safety (EHS) technical support as a resource for all of the organization’s facilities located in North and South America. The Regional EHS Manager – Americas will partner with site leadership to provide leadership, strategy, development, implementation, and oversight of world-class Global occupational health safety and environmental initiatives at all facilities.


This position is based on-site in West Bend, WI where it will be directly responsible for its day-to-day EHS-related activities on-site. In addition, this position is responsible for supporting environmental, health, and safety-related personnel sites in North and South America and their day-to-day responsibilities in supporting manufacturing operations. These responsibilities include but are not limited to ensuring the company's environmental, health, and safety programs meet or exceed federal and local regulatory compliance, auditing operations to ensure consistency with written EHS programs, ensuring thorough incident investigations and corrective actions are implemented, and providing Emergency Response training. 


This position will administer and oversee various compliance programs, procedures, and policies associated with federal, state, and local regulations and act as a liaison with internal/external legal and regulatory personnel and agencies as directed by the Global EHS Manager. The position must manage its own development, continuously learning through experience and staying abreast of technology and regulations.


  

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

• Assists sites with the implementation of company programs, policies, and systems and ensures continuous improvement of performance via systemic change based on risk assessments, root cause analysis, audit reports, and benchmarking, resulting in the continual improvement of safety and environmental KPIs.

• Conducts investigations and root cause analysis of accidents/incidents, as needed, with line management, suggests preventative solutions.

• Helps local management in undertaking risk assessments and the implementation of actions identified as required.

• The development, implementation, and support of Leading Indicator programs as deemed appropriate to the needs of the business expectations.

• Strong communication skills, an understanding of facility needs and process application, and the ability to manage priorities.

• Assess and develop EHS programs in partnership with the Operations Team to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and other environmental health and safety standards. 

• Serve as a strategic partner in implementing company initiatives and developing policies, standards, practices, and procedures.

• Support plants with inspections and formal responses to governmental agencies.

• Technical lead for environmental compliance matters across the region, including interpreting applicable Federal, State, and Local regulations.

• Identify training needs based on regional compliance trends.

• Support the sites with maintaining accreditation with standards such as ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.

• Undertake site-based compliance audits as necessary (both on-site and remote).

• Liaison with third-party auditors for scheduling, resolution of major nonconformances and other audit-related matters.

• To take part in management reviews to drive continuous improvement.

• Participates in reviews and approvals of facility capital projects and chemical purchases as a technical expert.

• Analyze EHS metrics for trends to rationalize allocating appropriate resources to higher-risk areas.

• Provide support and oversight to operations on safe work practices and industrial hygiene programs.

• Understanding of the EHS-related requirements for the sites in their region

• Provide safety training and coaching to employees as appropriate.

• To contribute towards the development of an integrated Environmental, Health, and Safety Management System.

• Oversite and Leadership to support, Best Practice Sharing, Visual Management and Visual Factory Safety Initiatives.

• Oversite and leadership with safety problem resolution, root cause analysis and corrective actions to ensure they are performed correctly and completed on time.

• Assist with the data collection for company ESG initiatives.

• Proactively seeking to avoid problems by promoting and increasing health, safety, environmental, and quality awareness within the business.

• Take an active role in the company's "Operational Excellence" events

• Supporting facilities in the development and maintenance of combustible dust management programs.

• Support Global EH&S aspirations as an active member and contributor to the EH&S Leadership team. Take on special projects as required by the team or assigned by senior leadership. Drive development and implementation of health and safety objectives and targets aligned to the long-term EHS strategic goals.

Requirements

• Knowledge of ISO 14001 and 45001 Management Systems

• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint

• Competence in the preparation of technical documentation

• Proven EHS background (ideally supported by environmental experience)

• The ability to engage and influence leaders with appropriate business acumen is highly desired. 

• Strong analytical skills with demonstrated problem-solving ability.

• CSHO, CHST, OHST, ASP, or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) recommended

• Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science or related degree, or equivalent combination of education, technical training

• Master’s degree preferred

• 10 plus years of industrial-related EHS experience

• Flexibility to travel at short notice (up to 30% of the role)

• Has the ability to travel within the United States, Mexico, and Brazil
