Description

The Quality Engineer provides quality support and leadership for all new and existing products and processes in the plant. Coordinates with the proper company personnel to provide timely and accurate answers for the customers. Leads development and refinement of product specific Quality systems to ensure compliance to customer standards.

 
 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Operates PC-based software programs including but not limited to: Microsoft Word, Excel, Mini Tab
  • Support product launches, Engineering changes and/or improvement changes at customer location and ensures Quality systems are updated to compliance
  • Assists in training new Quality employees in all aspects of Quality inspections and document training with education and Training sign-in sheets
  • Monitor floor to ensure product is produced to customer specification and inspection activities are being conducted in accordance with control plan requirements
  • Help to establish breakpoint for non-conforming material
  • Lead problem solving activities for customer issues and provide customer with complete 8D
  • Issue of RMA for customer issues
  • Conduct internal audits to ensure conformance with IATF 16949 requirements
  • Support plant floor inspections and Dock Audits
  • Develop and implement preventive actions for plant production processes
  • Develop and initiate standards and methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation
  • Devise forms/instructions for recording, evaluating, reporting quality and reliability data
  • Evaluate precision and accuracy of production equipment and testing
  • Initiate and implement re-work instructions
  • Prepare and submit PPAP per customer requirements
  • Obtain PPAP approval for new product and process changes
  • Perform/Support root cause analysis methodology using the 8D format
  • Initiate claims to suppliers for defective materials



Requirements

  Knowledge, skills, and abilities 

  • Working knowledge of ISO/TS16949 IATF standard
  • Prior automotive die casting and or machining manufacturing experience is a plus
  • Proficient in Core Quality Tools - APQP, PPAP, MSA, FMEA & SPC
  • Problem Solving tools such as 8D, Is – Is not, Cause and Effect, etc.
  • Working knowledge with PCDMIS software and CMM Programming is a plus
  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and ability to read and interpret blueprints and CMM reports
  • Effective interpersonal skills, including listening and persuasion
  • Experienced in quality system and process audits
  • Working knowledge of Six Sigma concepts
  • Data collection and statistical analysis; Minitab preferred
  • Must understand basic math and statistics
  • Ability to use a calculator and other basic measuring devices such as calipers and micrometers


Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical area such as Operations Management, Manufacturing Management, Materials/Supply Chain, Engineering, etc.  
  • May consider eight (8) years of directly relevant Quality/Manufacturing experience in lieu of Bachelor Degree 
  • At least five (5) years of experience in a Quality role performing responsibilities that are same as or similar to those listed in the Job Summary
  • Must have working knowledge of APQP, PPAP, 8D methodology, supplier quality, quality tools, and customer web-based systems 
  • Must have prior hands-on experience with testing equipment including but not limited to: depth gage, calipers, micrometer, tape measure, product gauges, and CMM preferred
