Swim Instructor @ Easterseals

Weekly | Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays 4-6pm, Fridays 5-6pm


This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Swim Instructors are responsible for providing high-quality swim instruction to individuals of various ages and skill levels. The instructor will promote water safety, skill development, and a positive learning environment while fostering a love for swimming and physical fitness.

Requirements
  1. Instructs aquatic programs in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly, and supports members and program participants in achieving their goals while working to ensure a diverse and inclusive culture at the Y.
  2. Develops and maintains positive relationships with volunteers, members, and program participants, and colleagues at all levels of the organization; helps participants and families connect with each other and the YMCA; and encourages parent or caregiver involvement.
  3. Communicate with supervisor, staff, members, guests, and volunteers in a clear, concise and positive manner while using Listen First skills.
  4. Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers program participants and families to the other programs.
  5. Maintains records as required (e.g., attendance, progress reports).
  6. Maintain accountability for assigned programs by attending all scheduled shifts and actively securing coverage for shifts that cannot be attended.
  7. Organizes and puts away the program equipment needed. Reports damaged equipment.
  8. Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
  9. Understands, supports and is committed to the YMCA cause and our role in the community as a leader in Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility. 
  10. Actively participates in team meetings as assigned. 
  11. Act as a positive role model while implementing YMCA character development and following the four core values of Caring, Honesty, Responsibility, and Respect. 
  12. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Y’s leadership team including the Director of Aquatics, Director of Operations, and/or President and CEO.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • CPR, AED, and First Aid Certification within 6 months
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.

  • Knowledge of Swim Lesson Equipment

  • Frequently required to stand, walk, sit use hands to manipulate objects, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk, hear and see.
  • Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke and/or water safety techniques.
  • Ability to lift equipment, and to lift a small to average size child.
Salary Description
$15.60/hour
