JOB SUMMARY
The Functional Architect plays an essential delivery role, collaborating with multiple levels of client management and subject matter experts to develop clear specifications of business requirements and data-supported solutions. This role involves creating practical, implementable, and cost-effective designs that address client needs across the meter-to-cash landscape for modernizing utilities. Functional Architects play a key role in gathering requirements and delivering solutions closely aligned with the project scope while ensuring a successful implementation of scalable and cost-effective solutions that align with clients' short- and long-term goals.
EXPECATIONS AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Solution/Business Domain Duties
- Develop creative and practical solutions that solve critical business problems across the meter-to-cash landscape.
- Analyze software requirements across multiple ERPs and domains, defining solution parameters and specifications.
- Stay updated on current product technologies and future industry trends to formulate relevant solutions.
- Manage the functional scope of projects to reduce risks for clients and Origin.
- Collaborate with Origin and clients teams to review multiple design options, ensuring alignment with industry best practices.
- Assess existing client challenges and propose additional Origin service offerings.
- Facilitate design workshops to engage stakeholders and build consensus around design proposals.
- Manage client expectations throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring alignment with timelines and budgets.
Customer Focus
- Facilitate design workshops and client onboarding sessions, focusing on gathering and clarifying business requirements.
- Build strong relationships with clients by resolving issues within the project scope.
- Manage expectations to ensure alignment with goals, budgets, and timelines.
- Assess the business and technical impacts of proposed solutions.
- Communicate proactively with clients to resolve any issues that could impact engagement success.
- Leverage knowledge from client engagements to present identify new avenues for upselling to Origin’s existing product and service offerings.
Sales and Business Development
- Supports account teams to develop potential solutions based on client ecosystems.
- Present additional Origin services based on identified client challenges and future needs.
- Contribute to bids and proposals, ensuring alignment with Origin’s standards and strategic objectives.
- Present solutions alongside senior management to prospective clients, emphasizing practical implementation and project feasibility.
Financial Accountability
- Monitor project scope and communicate changes to relevant stakeholders, mitigating financial risks.
- Support project leads in resource allocation.
- Ensure project remains in budget with careful cost management.
Mentoring Responsibilities
- Mentor junior team members and guides workstreams as part of larger projects.
- Focus on technical mentorship and project-specific skills development.
Competencies
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders effectively.
- Ability to articulate business issues and drivers using enterprise software and CIS solutions.
- Expertise in change management, system modernization, and transformation initiatives.
- Thorough understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
- Ability to plan and facilitate design workshops, engaging diverse stakeholder groups.
Solutions & Domain Experience
- Requires 7+ years of experience in utilities, with hands-on knowledge of CIS software and implementation support.
- At least 4 years of consulting experience with Oracle Utilities products (CC&B, C2M, or CCS), including proficiency in 75% of C2M/CCS sub-modules.
- Strong understanding of meter-to-cash processes and experience transitioning from legacy systems to Oracle Utilities solutions.
- Preferred experience integrating Oracle Utilities products with enterprise applications like Customer Self Service and Field Work Management systems.
- Familiarity with design principles within the Oracle Utilities Application Framework.
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related technology field.
- 7+ years of related professional experience, including internships and training. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will also be considered.
Certifications
- Oracle Utilities Implementation Certification for one or multiple products is preferred but not required.
Other Qualifications
- Must be available for at least 25% travel.
