Battle Motors in New Philadelphia, Ohio, is looking for an Environmental Health & Safety Technician.


The Environmental Health & Safety Technician will assist in ensuring a safe workplace and to ensure compliance with safety and health procedures and regulations. Also assist in developing and implementing appropriate safety and health management processes and systems at the site level and support functional objectives within the framework of Battle Motors’ corporate philosophy.


  

Key Accountabilities

  • Recognize hazards to identify conditions or actions that may cause injury, illness or property damage.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental permit requirements, and company standards
  • Assist with development of site environmental and safety policies and procedures
  • Support day-to-day activities, implementation, and administration of environmental health and safety programs
  • Promote and enforce safe work practices at the site and while developing a culture of safety with employee engagement as a core pillar
  • Conduct regular environmental and safety audits and inspections
  • Assist with environmental and safety communication and reporting
  • Interact with regulatory agencies as required to maintain compliance with all applicable standards
  • Ensure and support the timely completion of safety and environmental incident investigations, driving to root cause and corrective action
  • Encourage and promote the use of safer work equipment, materials, and supplies
  • Support implementation of employee health initiatives and programs
  • Assist with management of contractor safety program and training
  • Active participating member of the site Safety Committee
  • Participate, train, and execute drills/exercises on responsible management of emergency situations
Requirements

  

Qualifications/Skills/Requirements

  • Associate degree in environmental, occupational health and safety, or related field or two years relevant experience
  • Experience in environmental, health and safety management in industrial setting
  • Working knowledge of OSHA safety standards (PPE, Electrical Safety, Lockout/Tag out, Blood Borne Pathogen, Machine Guarding, Forklift, Hazard Communication), ANSI, NEC, NFPA
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills
  • Desire and ability to spend time on shop floor in regular engagement with frontline supervisors and employees
  • Strong coaching and leadership skills
  • Ability to understand technical processes; mechanical aptitude and project management skills valuable
  • Data analysis skills; administrative skills useful
  • Good follow through skills, as well as heightened attention to detail
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and Project
  • Ability to work flexible schedule as needed
  • Comfortable with confidentiality principles

Physical Requirements

  • Incumbents may be routinely exposed to equipment operational noise heat-cold-dust, and/or equipment, parts, or fuel odors.
  • Incumbents may be required to stand, sit, squat, walk, bend, move, reach, or stretch for prolonged time periods with no restrictions, as required by job duties.
  • Work in a safe and professional manner while adhering to all regulatory requirements (FAA, OSHA, DOT, EPA, State, and Federal           regulations, etc.).
  • Read, hear, speak, and see with no restrictions, as required by job duties.
  • Comprehend and adhere to management directions and/or safety instructions with no restrictions.
  • Effectively communicate in Business English language.
  • Pull, push, carry, lift, or move items up to 10 lbs. throughout the work shift without assistance, as required by job duties.
  • Pull, push, carry, lift or move materials/people/items/equipment weighing up to 50lbs or more during the work shift, with the use of Company provided “reach assistance technology” or “movement assist technology” (fork-lifts, pallet jacks, pulleys, dolly’s, robotics reach equipment, people movers etc.), as required by job duties.

This position will adhere to the Battle Motors Environmental Health and Safety Program by following all safety rules, procedures, practices, training, and safe use of equipment; this includes use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. This individual will work in a way that stresses the importance of preventing injury, accidents, or illnesses to themselves or co-workers by correcting or reporting unsafe situations, incidents, or occurrences to their supervisor immediately.
