The Gist…
Our Public Relations and Recruitment Specialist is responsible for developing and executing targeted public relations and recruitment strategies for high-demand law enforcement roles within U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). This position plays a critical role in shaping and promoting CBP’s recruitment brand, engaging diverse and highly qualified candidates, and ensuring alignment with CBP’s mission to secure U.S. borders and support legitimate travel and trade. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree and at least 8 years of relevant experience in public relations, recruitment, and strategic engagement, particularly in contexts requiring familiarity with law enforcement recruitment or similar environments.
What Your Day Might Include…
- Design and implement strategic public relations and recruitment plans to attract highly qualified and motivated candidates for law enforcement roles.
- Leverage expertise in media relations with public, private, and government sectors to develop impactful recruitment advertising that enhances visibility and appeals to a global audience.
- Create and disseminate recruitment materials and content that align with the mission, ensuring that messaging resonates with target audiences and effectively communicates the unique challenges and rewards of these careers.
- Oversee media campaigns across various channels, including digital, social, and print media, to promote career opportunities and highlight the benefits of working in law enforcement.
- Build relationships with media outlets to amplify recruitment messages and ensure broad reach to potential candidates, including through global media partnerships when necessary.
- Utilize data and analytics to assess the performance of recruitment advertising efforts and refine strategies to improve candidate engagement and response rates.
- Establish partnerships with colleges, universities, military institutions, veteran organizations, and other law enforcement agencies to build a pipeline of qualified, mission-aligned candidates.
- Actively engage with these organizations to promote career opportunities, presenting the organization as an employer of choice for those interested in securing U.S. borders and supporting trade.
- Participate in recruitment events, job fairs, and informational sessions to engage directly with prospective candidates and articulate the value and impact of careers with the organization
- Develop strategies to attract a diverse pool of candidates who are highly motivated, ambitious, and capable of supporting the organization’s mission.
- Ensure that recruitment efforts consider a broad demographic and professional range, with an emphasis on including veterans, recent graduates, and individuals with specialized law enforcement experience.
- Apply a strong understanding of law enforcement and security needs in developing recruitment criteria and advertising strategies to meet high standards.
- Where relevant, engage with law enforcement personnel and organizations to stay informed of best practices and trends in law enforcement recruitment and to align the recruitment approach with industry standards.
- Develop enterprise workforce communication plans and written Comms to communicate policy updates, benefits, leave, etc. across the entire organization.
- Support all large scale events and awards ceremonies, to include the upcoming C1 awards and Family Event in El Paso. Specifically agenda setting, facilitation guide development, speech writing, day of event logistics, etc.
You’ll Bring These Qualifications…
- US Citizenship Required to obtain Public Trust
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Human Resources, Marketing, or a related field.
- Minimum of 8 years in public relations and recruitment, with a proven track record in media relations, recruitment marketing, or public sector communications.
- Direct experience with law enforcement recruitment, or a background supporting recruitment for law enforcement or security-focused organizations.
- Proficiency with social media, digital marketing, and recruitment analytics tools; familiarity with public relations software and Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) is a plus.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to craft persuasive and engaging messaging across diverse platforms.
- Strong analytical abilities to assess recruitment metrics, evaluate campaign success, and adapt strategies based on quantitative insights.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including media, educational institutions, military, and veteran organizations.
- A clear understanding and commitment to CBP’s mission and a demonstrated interest in supporting national security and trade.
