Description

A paralegal is responsible for providing litigation assistance to attorneys and staff within the Firm to advance cases from the initial stages to hearing or settlement. This process includes but is not limited to tasks such as:


  • Facilitating communication with vendors, clients, and outside counsel 
  • Drafting and filing pleadings 
  • Performing discovery requests and factual investigations 
  • Obtain, analyze, and summarize medical records 
  • Troubleshoot case budget and vendor payment concerns 
  • Conduct legal research on as needed basis 
  • Compose routine and dispositive motions 
  • Assist in trial/hearing preparation 
  • Assist in deposition preparation 
  • Assist in ADR preparation 
  • Conduct regional civil docket searches 
  • Conduct social media searches 
  • Troubleshoot problems with discovery requests 
  • Arrange service of process 
  • Arrange surveillance 
  • Scheduling Deposition and DME’s
  • Arrange vendor services (i.e. court reporters, translators, copy service jobs)
  • Productivity in volume or work and/or billable time whichever is applicable

The paralegal functions to serve our clients with prompt and professional customer service with an attention to detail to help advance cases to resolution. Additionally, paralegals are to serve the team through managing individual case tasks in an organized and efficient manner, as well as providing as needed assistance to other staff members in the team to help reach the common goal of successful case outcomes The paralegal functions to serve the firm by being an efficient and productive billable entity and by being prompt and professional to the firm’s clients in effort to retain them for future cases.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or paralegal certificate preferred but not required

Physical Requirements

Paralegals must be able to alternatively, sit for long extended periods of time but also stand and walk (remain on feet) for extended periods of time. Position also requires extended periods of repetitive bending, twisting, stooping, and squatting with the ability to lift and carry frequently up to 30 lbs. The ability to work overhead and below waist level is also required. Paralegals must be able to spend extended periods of time working with computers, focused on monitors, doing repetitive typing and keyboarding. Paralegals must be able to drive/operate a motor vehicle and have reliable transportation. Attendance within keeping with the attendance policy is an essential element of the job.

As the Firm works in a fast-pace, adversarial process, Firm employees must have a tried and proven psychological/ mental capacity to also work in an often stressful, fast-pace, litigation environment.
