About the Position:
The Human Resources Generalist will be a member of the HR team that will assist in all functions of HR for Missionwell and its HR services business partners including, but not limited to: employee relations, payroll, recruiting, onboarding, and offboarding, benefits administration, performance management, job descriptions, leave administration, policy documentation and application, compensation benchmarking, and compliance. The Human Resources Generalist works independently to resolve all payroll- and benefits-related problems, suggests and implements solutions to employee relations items, and is forward-thinking about solutions to HR complexities facing Missionwell and our business partners.
Primary Responsibilities
- With the use of employee handbooks and applicable laws, determine the best solutions and course of action on employee relations items, ensuring all company HR policies are applied consistently.
- Manage the staffing process, including recruiting, interviewing, hiring and onboarding
- Ensure job descriptions and employee classifications are up to date and compliant with all local, state and federal regulations.
- Partner with the CPO to ensure strategic HR goals are aligned with business initiatives.
- Maintain HR systems, processes, and documentation.
- Conduct performance and salary reviews.
- Review semi-monthly and bi-weekly payrolls with efficiency and accuracy. Process as needed.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
- Maintain accurate accruals of benefits using HRIS software.
- Troubleshoot issues with HRIS and payroll software provider; Run reports as requested.
- Maintain a compliant understanding of HR administration including I-9 employer responsibilities, illegal interview questions, payroll calculations, and overtime rules.
- Overseeing onboardings and offboarding, including new hire paperwork, orientation, benefits enrollments, exit interviews and offboarding procedures.
- Support all HR activities, communications, reports, requests and documents created and received by the team; Provide administrative support to the human resources team by creating documentation of HR cases, proofreading work agreements and documentation, creating and updating procedural documentation, and assisting with the organization of the team’s work.
- Maintain excellent communication with the team and business partners.
- Assist with planning and execution of special events such as benefits enrollment, performance reviews, meetings, employee recognition events, holiday parties, and retirement celebrations.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business Administration or related field preferably with coursework focused in Human Resources.
- Communication skills are crucial for HR generalists as they need to effectively communicate with employees, managers, and job candidates. Strong communication helps in conflict resolution, policy explanation, and ensuring smooth employee relations.
- Strong problem-solving ability.
- Knowledge of California local and state laws is a plus.
- Extensive knowledge of payroll functions including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and accuracy of work.
- Work well under time pressure with excellent decision-making, problem-solving, prioritizing and time management, and analytical skills, while faced with competing deadlines.
- Excellent math skills and a friendly, easy relationship with spreadsheets and formulas.
- Proficient with email and MS Office, and a capacity to learn other programs as needed.
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and via email with clarity and an attitude of grace and respect.
- Ability to handle problems in a positive manner, finding effective solutions and/or knowing where to seek assistance.
- Punctuality and dependability.
- Ability to work independently in an efficient and effective manner.
- A familiarity with or a willingness to learn about nonprofit payroll and an understanding of religious organizations and nonprofits will give the candidate an advantage in servicing the clients.
- Experience processing payroll in Paylocity, Summit, Gusto and/or Rippling is a plus.
All Missionwell Staff are required to
- Maintain accurate project action items with status updates in Missionwell’s project management tools; maintain accurate timekeeping.
- Keep informed of organizational announcements, activities, and changes via a regular reading of Missionwell’s communication tools and attendance at staff meetings.
- Maintain a professional development plan for yourself and present this to your supervisor for regular, quarterly review and support.
- Maintain a strict level of confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
- Attend and participate in staff and team meetings as requested.
- Fulfill other duties and responsibilities as requested or as assigned.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
The following abilities are required for the position:
- Work at a desk in an office or home-office setting; Sit at an office desk for extended periods of time.
- Work for extended periods of time at a computer, requiring the ability to send and receive information with necessary optical, auditory, and manual dexterity.
- Use a keyboard and mouse to enter, retrieve or transfer words or data information and/or move from screen to screen on the computer to view information.
- Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills; comprehend and speak English.
- Display the reading skills necessary to proofread written material.
- Perform basic mathematical calculations.
