Description

The Gilchrist Law Firm PA has an exciting opportunity to support legal representation for the VAMHCS by assisting in filing guardianship petitions, managing case documentation, and facilitating communication between legal counsel, healthcare providers, and court systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in drafting and preparing guardianship petitions to the Circuit Court of Maryland.
  • Ensure timely submission of notifications to interested parties as directed by supervising attorney.
  • Organize and maintain all case-related documentation, including court records and filings, ensuring copies are available to VAMHCS within 2 business days of filing.
  • Liaise with VAMHCS program staff to gather medical records and other required evidence.
  • Coordinate logistics for court appearances, including preparing and briefing VAMHCS staff required to testify.
  • Accompany the attorney during hearings as needed to manage records and case notes.
  • Maintain weekly status updates on each guardianship case, ensuring VAMHCS and the attorney are informed of all developments.
  • Serve as a point of contact between VAMHCS and the attorney for case updates and document requests.
  • Ensure all case activities comply with VA Patient’s Bill of Rights and confidentiality standards set by Section 17.34a, Title 38, CFR.
  • Manage case billing documentation and assist in preparing invoices for timely submission under the Prompt Payment Act.


Requirements

 

  • Paralegal certification or relevant degree in legal studies.
  • Experience in guardianship, elder law, or healthcare-related legal support.
  • Knowledge of Maryland Circuit Court filing procedures and VA patient rights.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with legal counsel, healthcare providers, and VA staff.
