Summary:
At Greenacres, we employ curious, passionate people who support our mission and values. Our Equine Department is looking for a full-time Stable Hand to join our small, dedicated team in maintaining a premier equestrian facility. This role is ideal for someone who is enthusiastic, flexible with scheduling, and has a strong commitment to equine care and facility upkeep.
Schedule:
- Workdays are Sunday–Thursday with some flexibility as needed.
Responsibilities:
Daily Stable Chores
- Follow provided Daily Sheets to complete feeding schedules (hay, grain, water)
- Clean and re-bed stalls according to Greenacres standards
- Clean water troughs, feed buckets, and other equipment
- Turn horses out to pasture and bring them back as needed, either by hand or independently moving the herd
- Complete assigned daily projects
Equipment Operation & Facility Maintenance
- Operate tractors, gators, skid steers, arena drags, and other stable equipment
- Maintain the cleanliness of equine facilities, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, and laundry
- Notify the Stable Supervisor when supplies, such as grain and shavings, need to be ordered
- Independently clean dry lots in winter within 1 hour
Medical & Feeding Routines
- Follow and maintain medical charts as directed by the Stable Supervisor or Equine Manager
- Help create and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for feeding, winter blanketing, fly gear, and other care needs
- Assist with herd diet adjustments, and support the Stable Supervisor during farrier and vet visits
Team Contributions & Miscellaneous Duties
- Attend team meetings and workshops to continually enhance equine care practices
- Participate in Greenacres committee work as needed
- Perform additional tasks as assigned to support the team and equine care
- Background in equine husbandry with 2+ years of stable and horse care experience
- 18+ years of age and able to lift 50 lbs.
- Comfortable working 8-hour shifts independently
- Basic knowledge of equine nutrition and understanding of feed routines
- Familiarity with basic equine wound care and common medications (e.g., bute)
- Ability to work efficiently without supervision
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test and FBI background check
