Summary
Manages the Corporate Support Department and primarily responsible for leading the sales of sponsorship for on-air programming, online media, and print publications for Nevada Public Radio, as well as the supervision and training of sales staff. Works collaboratively to maximize revenue opportunities and streamline stewardship of all prospects in the market, with a personal focus on those with the greatest revenue potential. An understanding of and appreciation for the unique nature of public radio is essential.
The Corporate Support Manager reports directly to the CEO.
Duties and Essential Job Functions
- Work within a team-based collaborative environment to achieve department and organizational goals.
- Develop and execute sales package/pricing strategies, collateral and presentation materials.
- Create and maintain strong presence among area PR and media buying firms locally, regionally, and nationally.
- Establish, implement and maintain clear standards of performance and a “lead” claim system for the organization.
- Supervise and manage corporate support staff, providing necessary guidance, leadership, and support, so that goals are set & met and corporate relationships are created, maintained, and enhanced.
- Learn and master the unique regulations set out by the FCC under which public radio operates – and serve as the primary liaison for copy.
- Direct the training and professional development activities for the corporate support staff.
- Oversee legacy house accounts and serves as interim account manager as needed.
- Help to set and exceed Underwriting monthly, quarterly, and annual revenue goals.
- Establish corporate support goals for each staff person and monitor activities, billings and collections, based on budget and direction from executive leadership.
- Responsible for sales and collection goals.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with corporate sponsors.
- Develop and implement marketing strategies to attract corporate sponsors; develop campaign budgets and plan and implement campaign schedules.
- Develop and expand the national advertising sales.
- Manage multi-market buys through National Public Broadcasting.
- Manage radio broadcast spot inventory and Desert Companion ad spaces.
- Participates in annual department strategic planning and revenue goal setting.
- Represent NVPR at networking and special events as an active member of the public broadcasting community.
- Works to understand both market and content specific nuances of the public radio brand and use this understanding to support the organizational mission, principles and values.
- Perform other job related duties as assigned.
- Participates in organizational fundraising events as directed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong managerial, supervisory and motivational skills.
- Successful track record meeting and exceeding sales goals.
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Strong knowledge of advertising, marketing, and public relations practices within the region, with established business contacts. .
- Must be computer proficient—particularly in Microsoft Office Suite, and able to learn traffic software, and other media statistical software.
- Superior knowledge of/and experience with computer-based radio research and audience profile tools and systems used by advertising and public relations agencies, such as Arbitron and Scarborough.
- Strong communication skills required including, diplomacy, negotiating, and closing, along with written correspondence, and oral presentations to individuals and groups. Superior sales experience and skills.
- Must have demonstrated experience managing corporate and agency relationships at a professional level.
- Must have the ability to effectively work under pressure on many projects while meeting deadlines and goals.
FLSA Classification - Exempt; salaried.
Salary: Commensurate on experience; full-time, exempt position with excellent benefits package.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years sales management or fundraising management experience with broadcast media sales and sales training preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, advertising, public relations, business, or a related field preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and insured vehicle for station business.
- Ability to arrive to work on time and work a consistent work week.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to travel/drive.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
- Must be able to sit at a desk for prolonged periods.
- Must be able to sit or stand, work on a computer, type and walk.
