Electro-Mechanical Technicians (Machine Builders) are responsible for the production of subassemblies and full machines to exacting tolerances through the use of engineering drawings and ISO work instructions. The tasks include mechanical, optical, electrical and software/computer operations. The role requires mechanical aptitude in precise assembly. Successful team members are those that come to the job with a work ethic to maintain high levels of quality and craftsmanship.
Role and Responsibilities:
· Assembles and adjusts a variety of subassemblies and major assemblies, independently and reliably.
· Produces specific assembly products of high quality; relies on prints, work instructions, experience and repetition to accomplish results.
· Inspects and tests work to ensure accuracy and quality.
· Writes or assists in writing work instructions and trains others on Assembler skills.
Machine Builder II is the second of three levels of assembler job roles at QVI, representing a journeyman-level position with an expectation of knowledge and competency in the following:
Sciences:
- Intermediate math: addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, fractions, decimals, percentages, geometry, trigonometry
- Basic electronics concepts: ESD, grounding, capacitors, resistors, PCBA’s, power supplies, motors, wiring
- Units of Measure (English and Metric) and conversions between
- Reading & writing in English at a high-school graduate level
Tools:
- Basic hand tools: wrenches, torque wrenches, screwdrivers, hammers, razors.
- Advanced tools for shaping and forming materials: files, grinders, lapping plates.
- Basic metrology instruments: calipers, micrometers, scales, dial indicators, gage blocks
- Advanced measurement instruments: Collimators, Electronic Levels, Electronic Indicators, and digital multi-meters.
- Power tools: drills, drill presses, belt sanders, grinders
Other Skills:
- Commitment to care and use of sensitive, delicate, tools and instruments.
- Use of analytical skills for identifying problem areas and creative ways for resolution.
- Organization and neatness of assigned assembly work area.
- Ability to read an interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
Additional Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent education.
- 3+ years of work experience in machine assembly or similar discipline
- Computer literacy with ability to navigate through use of browsers and basic MS-Office programs.
Physical and/or Environmental Requirements:
· Ability to lift and carry heavy machinery parts weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance.
· Proficient manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for precise assembly work.
· Stamina to stand for extended periods (full workday of 8 hours) during assembly processes.
· Capacity to operate power tools and equipment safely.
