Nature of Work:
Performs entry-level technical or specialized work in maintaining and repairing Bonita Springs Utilities (BSU’s) equipment and facilities. Operates and maintains lift stations, generators, odor control equipment, telemetry and supervisory control and data acquisition system (SCADA), gravity sewer lines stoppages, valves and air release valves, force mains, closed circuit television (CCTV), and gravity line cleaning. Work is performed under close supervision with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intent of this job description is to provide a summary of tasks performed in this classification. Incumbents may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
- Installs, maintains, replaces, and / or repairs, various electrical and mechanical components and equipment (i.e., pumps, motors, control panel components, compressors, valves, lines).
- Performs preventative maintenance on electrical, mechanical, and manual equipment, machinery, and components according to assigned schedules or when directed.
- Inspects and tests tools, vehicles, and safety gear; reviews and restocks supplies; performs service vehicle inventory.
- Monitors and ensures proper environmental and safety conditions for each work site.
- Observes actions and records readings of all work / service performed (i.e., motor ampere, pump and motor performance, part replacement, etc.).
- Operates boom or hoist truck and service vehicles.
- Safeguards all assigned tools, equipment, and electronics from theft, loss, destruction, and / or negligence.
- Follows all BSU and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety policies and procedures.
- Remains in contact via company phone / radio at all times in the event of an emergency.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Basic mechanics and electrical procedures.
- Using basic hand tools.
- Learn basic electrical and mechanical control panels as well as advanced mechanical functions.
- Interpret graphs and read daily telemetry reports.
- Clearly communicate and understand information, both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- State of Florida driver’s license and be able to obtain Class “B” CDL with tanker endorsement within first year of employment.
- State of Florida Class “C” Wastewater Collection certificate or obtain one within 24 months of hire date.
- Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Certification within 6 months.
