WHAT YOU'LL DO
The Director, Compliance Advisory is a senior compliance position at the Bank that reports directly to the Senior Director, Compliance and plays a critical role managing the Advisory Compliance Group. The Director, Compliance is responsible for helping to oversee and enhance the compliance management system (CMS) of the Bank, ensuring that it aligns with the Bank's growth strategy and risk appetite. The Director, Compliance will manage the Bank and/or CCB FinTech Division (CCBX) Compliance program and work directly with Bank Business Line and/or BaaS FinTech Partner senior staff and/or leadership to provide strategic regulatory compliance advice and problem-solving expertise. As the Director, Compliance you will help support the development and enhancement of Compliance processes, technology, and reporting to ensure that the Advisory Compliance group operates both efficiently and effectively mitigating compliance risk.
HOW YOU'LL DO IT
Governance:
· Support the Senior Director, Compliance to develop, administer, and monitor the implementation of a CMS that provides assurance over the Bank’s compliance with laws and regulations applicable to its operations and product offerings particularly those of Bank Business Lines and/or BaaS FinTech Partners.
· Actively monitor external resources for emerging regulatory compliance trends or changes to the compliance environment; determine applicability to Bank Business Lines and/or BaaS FinTech Partners, and effectively support implementation of the change.
· Continually assess the compliance risk needs of Bank Business Lines and/or BaaS FinTech Partners in response to growth and evolving business activities and help support the Advisory Compliance Program accordingly.
· Maintain advanced knowledge of and ensure Bank Business Line and/or BaaS FinTech Partner activities are performed in compliance with state and federal banking laws and regulations applicable to assigned areas of oversight.
· Serve as subject matter expert providing compliance advice and guidance to Bank Business Lines and/or BaaS FinTech Partners, while addressing any compliance questions.
Management:
• Manage compliance risk professionals who work directly with Bank Lines of Business and/or FinTech Partners to identify risks, develop assessments, offer input over controls and testing, provide advice on and monitor remediation activities, and create reports.
• Provide direct reports with proper tools and authority to execute their assigned functions.
• Develop skills of staff through goal setting, coaching, problem resolution, delegation, training, counseling, and performance management.
• Assist staff with escalations related to Bank Business Line and/or BaaS FinTech Partner improvements to correct any operational deficiencies found in internal reviews and audits, or regulatory examinations.
Collaboration:
• Engage with peers across the three lines of defense to establish effective and collaborative relationships and feedback loops to identify and address root causes of issues.
• Maintain effective communication with FinTech Partners, peers, business leaders, executives (directly or through discussion groups, task forces, etc.), and/or process owners so that all stakeholders are informed about compliance requirements and have the awareness to work together to mitigate compliance risk exposure.
• As needed, liaise with external parties such as Federal or State bank examiners, external auditors, and outside consulting firms regarding the Bank’s compliance function.
Assessment:
• Oversee and perform Compliance risk assessments of assigned Bank Business Lines and/or BaaS FinTech Partners' new or modifications to product and service offerings to identify any compliance related issues and/or to incorporate new regulatory requirements.
• Manage the development and recommend approval of compliance policies, ensuring that standards, procedures, and guidelines comply with applicable laws and regulations, the Bank’s risk appetite, tolerances, and policies.
• Research laws and regulations as needed or when unique circumstances arise.
• Independently investigate and act on matters related to compliance risk.
Reporting and Analytics:
• Support the Senior Director, Compliance in discussions with Engineering, Data, and Technology teams to increase efficiency, reduce manual tasks, and develop dashboards, metrics, and reports.
• Manage the collection of information for regulatory examinations and compliance-related audits related to Bank Business Line and/or BaaS FinTech Partner compliance
• Help conduct post-examination follow up, prepare responses to examination and audit reports, and oversee corrective actions.
• Support the Senior Director, Compliance in the preparation and presentation of clear and concise reporting to the Board of Directors, Management, and committees.
• Report to the Senior Director, Compliance on a regular basis, providing status updates related to the oversight of Bank Business Lines and/or BaaS FinTech Partners.
Administrative:
• May prepare or support regulatory filings for federal, state, and local regulatory agencies.
• Keep informed and maintain knowledge of all applicable bank regulations for assigned job function through research, training and/or coursework.
• Provide internal service in accordance with Coastal Core Values.
• Support other key compliance and risk management projects as needed
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
· Comprehensive knowledge of financial services, Banking as a Service (BaaS), deposit, lending, and privacy compliance laws and regulations (e.g., Regulation E, Truth in Savings Act, Unfair, Deceptive or Abusive Acts or Practices, FACTA, Reg Z-Truth in Lending, Regulation B-Equal Credit Opportunity Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act).
· Ability to build rapport and develop strong internal and external partnerships.
· Ability to succinctly and effectively present information and respond to questions from Bank Business Lines, BaaS FinTech Partners, the Board of Directors, and Executives.
· Demonstrated decision-making capability under demanding situations while dealing with complex issues involving competing interests.
· Capability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written or oral form and translate requirements to direct reports.
· Experience in attracting, developing, and retaining key talent.
· Exceptional analytical, problem-solving skills and abilities with strong attention to detail and accuracy.

· Proven ability to prepare documents and compose memos, compliance program documents, and/or Bank-wide policies and procedures.

· Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft O?ce Products. Can build pro?ciency in other software solutions used by the Compliance group.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
· 10+ years of relevant experience in compliance, risk management, audit, or legal roles in the financial services industry preferably with some Fintech exposure, and at least 3 years in a leadership position; or proven success in current role at Coastal with strong references.
· Bachelor’s degree (advanced degree such as an MBA or law degree preferred) or equivalent combination of education, professional certification and/or experience.
· Experience leading staff in a fast paced, complex environment.
· Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) designation, or ability to obtain in one year.
· Leadership experience in compliance, risk management, audit, and regulatory examination processes and activities.
