Description

Avondale House is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit agency that provides, educational services to individuals with autism, a day program for adults, where clients receive training in daily living skills and pre-vocational activities, employment services for those with disabilities and four residential homes for individuals unable to live in their own home. Avondale House has been serving individuals with autism since 1976.

Job Duties:


  • Creates and implements student work activities as per Individualized Education Plan (IEP), Behavior Plan (BIP), and any supplement plan under direction of classroom teacher.
  • May participate in Admission, Review, Dismissal (ARD) meeting in absence of Teacher.
  • Collects data on academics and behavior.
  • Completes required special education reports and other documents.
  • Monitors and engages with students at all times, keeping students on task and redirecting as necessary.
  • Ensures ratio compliance at all times.
  • Assists students with hygiene as needed.
  • Prepares classroom for instructional day each morning and cleans and prepares the classroom for the following day each afternoon.
  • Monitors and supports student arrivals and dismissals. 
  • Shows compassion, builds rapport and encourages students to reach their full potential.
  • Works with staff throughout Avondale House to meet the needs of each student.


Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required; at least 30 hours of college course work in a related field required.
  • Education Aide Certification through Texas Education Agency (TEA) preferred.
  • At least 2 years experience working with students with Autism or with intellectual disabilities required.
  • Ability to take initiative in planning and starting classroom activities.
  • Current CPR/AED Certification required.
  • Current, valid Texas Driver’s License required.

Physical Requirements:


  • Ability to implement CPI, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.
  • Lifting/Moving up to 50 lbs and lifting moving up to 100 plus lbs with assistance.
  • Ability to stand on your feet for 2-3 hours at a time.
  • Stooping, kneeling, pushing and pulling. 
  • Must be able to handle situations that may be stressful at times.

Salary Description
