Job Summary

The Instructor III, Fitness position is responsible for educating patrons on proper fitness techniques and maintaining Fieldhouse class areas and storage closets. 


Minimum Qualifications

  •  18 years of age or older. 
  •  High school diploma or equivalent. 
  •  Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification.
  •  Certified Instructor ACE, AFAA, NASM, USWFA, or equivalent.

The successful applicant must pass a required pre-employment background check and subsequent mandatory background checks in accordance with current District policy requirements.


Preferred but not required:

  •  Knowledge of related sports and activities associated with the Fieldhouse.
  •  Personal training certification. 
  •  Additional fitness specialties and certifications.

Essential Functions

  •  Receive class patrons in a friendly and professional manner. 
  •  Assist patrons, answer questions, and maintain a positive experience for members.
  •  Ensure fitness areas and equipment are clean and organized into designated storage areas.
  •  Prepare appropriate equipment, music, and handouts for each class. 
  •  Instruct patrons on effective workout methods using proper techniques. 
  •  Demonstrate exercises, identify different muscle groups, and teach appropriate methods to strengthen specific muscles. 
  •  Monitor equipment maintenance and report any issues or broken equipment in a timely manner. 
  •  Teach scheduled classes and provide adequate warm-ups, exercises, stretching, and cool-downs.
  •  Ensure patron adherence to safety standards and department and facility policies. 
  •  Learn and comprehend all program information provided and convey such to patrons. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

Knowledge of:

  •  Human anatomy, kinesiology, and training principles.
  •  Group fitness teaching strategies and the incorporation of music, cueing techniques, rhythm, and choreography. 
  •  Principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.

Skill and Ability to:

  •  Exhibit good leadership qualities, sound judgment, and integrity; accept guidance willingly. 
  •  Work with the public in a fast-paced and challenging environment. 
  •  Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. 
  •  Motivate class participants in a professional manner. 
  •  Learn new activities and tasks; accept and adapt to change.
Requirements

Working Conditions, Physical Requirements, and Aptitudes

  •  Duties primarily performed in a public setting, requiring constant interaction with a variety of people.
  •  Exposure to frequent noises and interruptions.
  •  Work effectively with crowds and uncooperative individuals during difficult situations, emergencies, or periods of continuous demand. 
  •  Work a variety of shifts including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays depending on department needs.
  •  This position is ineligible for remote work. Essential duties cannot be completed without being physically present.

Physical Requirements

  • Equal or less than 25% | Focus on a computer screen. 
  • Equal or less than 25% | Sitting. 
  • Equal or less than 100% | Standing, walking, bending, and other physical exertion. 
  • Equal or less than 75% | Pushing, pulling, and kneeling. 
  • Equal or less than 50% | Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds unassisted.
Salary Description
$26.54 -$33.17 per hour
