POSITION PURPOSE 

This US based Process Safety Engineer I will work a hybridized role between divisions to provide support for various work streams. PSM work will primarily be in large industrial facilities such as refineries, chemical plants, and/or oil & gas facilities. The primary PSM responsibility is to provide technical support on PSM activities and complex projects by defining and executing the scope, schedule, and budget specific to the client expectations. Technical focus areas for this role will be PSM audits, PHAs, and other programmatic compliance support. Additional Engineering support in preparing SOPs and redline updates for clients could also be included in this role. The goal of this position will be to support the development of projects and programs to not only meet revenue goals, but also that will provide world class, industry leading programs at client locations. This role will also support mentoring and teaching junior level engineers and technical staff on a day-to-day basis. 

Requirements

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

The Process Safety Engineer I will provide technical support for PSM services to customers, including:

· PSM compliance audits

· PSSR (Pre-Startup Safety Reviews) development and field performance

· PHA (Process Hazard Analyses) leader

· Mechanical Integrity program development

· MOC (Management of Change) consulting

· Release Scenario risk assessment consulting

· PSI (Process Safety Information) compilation and organization

· PSM program training (on & off-site)

· EPA RMP (Risk Management Program) as is relates to PSM

· PRV (Pressure Relief Valve) sizing calculations and determinations

· P&ID Redline and Revision


The Process Safety Engineer I will provide Engineering support for SOP and Engineering services to customers, including:

· Draft, review, and edit (i.e. technical, substantive, copy edits) the various types of documentation for internal and external customers in collaboration with management, operations personnel, safety personnel, and other vested parties

· For internal departments: business, engineering, and safety documentation such as standard operating procedures (SOPs), policies, reports, forms, and training and marketing presentations

· For biofuel, chemical, oil & gas plant customers subject to OSHA 1910.119 Process Safety Management and other OSHA and EPA regulations: plant and laboratory operations, lockout-tag out procedures, confined space procedures, equipment descriptions, operating parameter and safety system descriptions, and chemical hazard information

· PID Projects and redline management


Execute Scope, Schedule, and Budget

· Manage technical approach and delivery of all work product associated with assigned project(s)

· Allocate resources to technical staff to efficiently perform tasks (including copy of proposal/work plan, spreadsheets, technical guidance packages, review progress & workload)

· Define and communicate measurable points of success (performance measures specific to the project)

· Distinguish whether to coach or delegate work to project team members based on an assessment of skill sets

· Act as guardians for the customer in all aspects of the relationship


Assist with administrative and technical functions, including:

· Service proposals and agreements

· Service schedules

· Track client audit performance using spreadsheets and charting tools

· Develop professional presentations representing PROtect to industry

· Represent PROtect in opening and closing meetings with customers

· Generate comprehensive and concise reports which demonstrate the value of PSM services

· Track findings to closure

· Customer invoicing

· Enhance PSM auditing tools, protocols, and checklists

· Develop and/or implement lessons learned/share processes

· Develop compliance strategies

· Develop media for marketing services

· Develop plans for PSM culture change at customer facilities

· Maintain personal expertise by staying updated on current/pending technical standards

· Communicate to management the level of PSM compliance existing at the facilities

· Prepare written reports for management and customers, summarizing observations and corrective actions

· Report results, needs, opportunities and industry developments to management

· Maintain customer data base


Develop new sales opportunities

· Build rapport with the plant staff

· Identify potential rapport relationships for other project managers and technical staff and introduce the client to those employees as relevant.


 

Education/Certification:

BS Engineering degree in environmental, mechanical, or chemical engineering discipline required with safety emphasis or additional certifications preferred.

P.E. Certification Path Preferred

Required Knowledge and Experience:

· 1 - 5+ years of industrial engineering experience with emphasis around PSM, EPA regulations

· Have a general understanding of biofuel, chemistry, and/or oil & gas plant operations, equipment and processes.

· Prefer knowledge and exposure to safety and health regulations and other industry standards as they apply to operating facilities and construction sites. Prefer knowledge and exposure to PSM as it applies to chemicals or manufacturing, plant construction, operation, maintenance, or the safety and health field.

· Current and valid driver’s license required.

· Current automobile liability insurance and maintain a personal vehicle for business use required.

· Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office suite required.

· Auto CAD experience a plus.

· HYSYS (Equiv.) Experience a plus.
