This Senior Director of Economic Development position provides comprehensive cross-functional support for advancing the implementation of the Pittsburgh Regional Alliance’s proactive business development, attraction, retention, and expansion initiatives. It reports to the SVP of Business Investment.
• Support developing and implementing strategic plans to grow and expand the Pittsburgh region's emerging clusters (energy, advanced manufacturing, life sciences, robotics & AI).
• Collaborate with stakeholders from public and private sectors to align goals and objectives with broader regional economic development strategies.
• Support the development and tracking of metrics and benchmarks to measure program effectiveness and impact, making data-driven adjustments as necessary.
• Engage with industry leaders and companies in the energy, advanced manufacturing, life sciences, robotics, and technology sectors to understand their needs, challenges, and opportunities.
• Facilitate collaboration between industry stakeholders, higher education and research institutions, and startups to drive innovation and commercialization.
• Support outreach within targeted sectors to key industry leaders for purposes of business development.
• Support the development of a sophisticated, targeted outbound recruitment program along with coordinating domain-specific business intelligence and deep industry experience to connect with prospects and proactively understand their direct business needs.
• Participate in outbound recruitment efforts, including but not limited to national and international tradeshows, conferences, meetings, and events.
• Support the development of a targeted business retention and expansion program to drive in-market growth within identified sectors.
• Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and tracking mechanisms to monitor the progress and impact of cluster development efforts.
• Prepare regular reports and presentations highlighting achievements, challenges, and opportunities for stakeholders, funders, and the board of directors.
• Stay informed about industry trends, market dynamics, and regulatory changes that may impact the cluster's growth trajectory.
Qualifications
Expertise:
Education and knowledge demonstrate profound expertise in applied social science research. Firm grasp of research methodologies and tools. Familiarity with macro and micro economic and community development issues.
Experience:
At least 10 years of demonstrated expertise within key growth sectors and market research, economic analysis, real estate research, or economic development are required.
Skills:
Strong proficiency in data analytics, including relevant tools and software.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Excellent organizational, planning, problem-solving, and project management skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills: ability to interact diplomatically and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with various individuals.
Valid Driver’s license and the ability to travel as needed.
