The CMM Technician operates Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) equipment, calibration of gauges, maintain various other items needed for quality control.  

  • Receives instructions and work assignments from Supervisor.
  • Set up and run existing CMM programs using Calypso and Polyworks software. 
  • Reads and interprets blueprints and plans working procedure.
  • Inspects forgings, die blocks and electrodesusing the CMM and interpret results to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Perform routine maintenance and calibration of the CMM.
  • Troubleshoot issues during measurement and recommend solutions.
  • Record and report measurement data for quality control purposes.
  • Supports design of basic gauges for inspection purposes.
  • Utilizes approved work instructions for gauge calibration and certification for conformance to NIST.
  • Supports gauge R&R studies.
  • Supports  any special customer certification requirements.
  • Assist in setup of MPI.
  • Perform dock audits as required.
Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledge and understanding of surface plate layout, gauges, CMMs, specifications, procedures.
  • Knowledge and understanding of industrial manufacturing processes and techniques.
  • Blueprint reading skills for interpretation of drawings, notes.
  • Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) tolerances and symbols.
  • Knowledge of inspection and control methods, techniques, and documentation.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of five 3 years of automotive or aerospace inspection experience, with experience using a variety of equipment for dimensional inspection
  • Familiarity with CMM and measurement equipment
  • Forging  experience is a plus.
