JOB TITLE: Floater Teacher

REPORTS TO: CDC Director

FLSA TYPE: Non-Exempt, hourly


JOB PURPOSE:

Under the direct supervision of the Child Development Center Director, you are responsible for meeting the developmental needs of children two through three years of age in a group setting. Floaters work in the classroom where they are needed and may have some kitchen responsibilities. Responsibilities include providing a safe and secure environment and maintaining positive relations and communications with families, partnership agencies and program staff. All staff are representatives of the philosophy, mission and goal of the YMCA and its youth development programs. Staff must strive to work cooperatively with fellow employees to achieve the goals and objectives of the YMCA.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (not a complete list):

  • Arrange and maintain the classroom to provide for learning centers and rotate toys routinely.
  • Maintain positive, open relations with all families.
  • Reinforce daily to parent and child the successes and positive behaviors exhibited.
  • Communicate all concerns and provide written documentation of all concerns to the Director.
  • Facilitate all classroom activities, participate, model, and observe, as necessary.
  • Maintain learning centers; older toddlers, preschoolers, and kindergarteners have space arranged for a variety of individual and small group activities including block building, dramatic play, art, music, science, math, manipulative, and quiet book reading.
  • Maintain confidentiality on a strict need to know basis with parents, staff, outside agencies, and the general community.
  • Respond appropriately to all emergency and non-emergency situations and fill out necessary paperwork.
  • Ability to be flexible in assignment and work hours.
  • Follow Child Abuse Report Guidelines.
  • Understand and implement all emergency drills as needed.
  • Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures regarding the prevention of abuse.
  • Report any suspected abuse, neglect, or misconduct immediately to the appropriate supervisory staff.
  • Attend mandatory training on abuse prevention, including recognizing signs of abuse, and reporting requirements.
  • Other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements

Required:

  • High school diploma
  • CDA
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and have experience working with ages birth - 3 years
  • Possess a command of spoken and written English to serve as a language role model.
  • CPR/AED, First Aid and O2 Certification or willingness to obtain desired.
  • Experience managing groups of young children.
  • Meet all Health Department Guidelines.

Preferred:

  • Minimum of 6 months experience working in a licensed childcare program.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Preferably one or more years of college in a related field (i.e. early childhood, child development, psychology, etc.)
  • Knowledge and ability to implement creative and developmentally appropriate curriculum.
  • Understand the nature of the YMCA as a membership organization
  • Bilingual - English/Spanish


Salary Description
$14.48 an hour
