About the Role

HPS is seeking to hire a full-time Legal Assistant in its Carlsbad office who has at least 5 years’ experience supporting litigation attorneys, with a background in medical malpractice or healthcare law. The Legal Assistant will work under the supervision of the HR Director and HR Manager to support assigned attorneys. Please note that this position is a full-time in-office position. 


Responsibilities

· Maintains attorneys' calendar, including docketing all court appearances, meetings, depositions, and deadlines. 

· Schedules court appearances, client meetings, depositions and other engagements. Ensures there are no scheduling conflicts and notifies attorneys of pending deadlines.

· Prepares and files pleadings and other Court documents and serving all appropriate parties. 

· Serves as intermediary between attorneys, firm personnel and the courts, relaying communications between each group.

· Generates all correspondence.

· Assists with logging and distributing incoming and outgoing mail.

· Creates and maintains client files, records, logs and any other information in relation to case file.


What You Will Need to Succeed

  • 5+ years as a Legal Assistant within a law firm supporting attorneys practicing medical malpractice defense litigation or other defense litigation.
  • Knowledge of concepts, terminology, principles and procedures of the law.
  • Knowledge of functions and jurisdictions of local, state and federal courts and related agencies including knowledge of      filing requirements for each court. 
  • Highly proficient using MS Office Suites: Word, Excel, Outlook, Billing Software, and On-Line Document Management Software.
  • Proficiency with electronic filing procedures in State Courts, including California Courts, as well as Federal Courts.
  • Expertise in using Outlook Calendars for scheduling and maintaining attorneys' busy court schedules.  
  • Experience in creating and maintaining documents, formatting, inputting, editing, retrieving, and copying; coordinating case      preparation.
  • Experience in tracking billing hours through billing software.
  • Must be highly organized, able to multitask and juggle competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong time management skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Salary Description
$55K+ annually (based on experience)
