Inspired Solutions is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Madigan Army Medical Center’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). This role involves coordinating patient care in collaboration with a diverse healthcare team, ensuring compliance with established standards, performing physical exams and health histories, administering medications and personalized interventions, and supervising other healthcare professionals. The position requires quick response to emergencies, effective communication within the healthcare team, and the ability to provide comprehensive neonatal care, including respiratory support and specialized equipment usage. The nurse also participates in care planning, research, and serves as a resource for critical care and neonatal resuscitation.


ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate patient care in collaboration with a wide array of healthcare professionals. Facilitate the achievement of optimal outcomes in relation to clinical care, quality and cost effectiveness. Perform critical care duties to include assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating age-specific nursing care across all ages
  • Ensure compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the MTF
  • Perform physical exam and health histories
  • Provide health promotions, counseling, and education
  • Administer medications, wound care, and numerous other personalized interventions
  • Direct and supervise care provide by other healthcare professionals
  • Accountable for making patient care assignments based on the scope of practice and skill level of assigned personnel
  • Recognize adverse signs and symptoms and quickly react in emergency situations
  • Communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organization
  • Make referral appointments and arrange specialty care as appropriate
  • Conduct research in support of improved practice and patient outcomes
  • Provide comprehensive professional neonatal care to critically ill neonatal patients in the NICU. The NICU RNs are responsible for infants throughout tour of duty and have extensive knowledge and experience and have the skill for concentrated effort and are self–motivating to carry out patient care requirements
  • Responsible for caring for infants with a variety of respiratory support devices such as oscillators, vents, iNO, CPAP, SIPAP, nasal cannula and trach tubes
  • Participate in the development and updating of patient care plan
  • Monitor IV fluids, blood and blood products, check rate, volume and insertion site. Perform neonatal catheter care. Change fluid containers and tubing. Recognize potential problems and take corrective action
  • Perform basic infant care procedures, lifting, turning, transporting and positioning. Providing personal hygiene care, changes linens, clothing and feeds infants to include NG/ OG, PO, G-tube feedings
  • Support, assist and instruct breast feeding Mothers to promote maximum nutritional needs based on Mothers’ desire to breast feed
  • Set up or assist in setting up and use specialized equipment such as ventilator support oxygen delivery systems, drainage suction devices, hypothermic units and infusion pumps
  • Mix and administer prescribed medication orally, intramuscularly, subcutaneously, intravenously, topically, etc., and knows which drugs shall alter the effects of another drug if administered concurrently prior to the administration of medication
  • Serve as a resource person whom other critical care nurses and other health providers consult when particularly difficult problems in care of critically ill patients arise
  • Serves as a member of the Neonatal Resuscitation Team; attends high-risk deliveries and initiates neonatal resuscitative measures as directed
  • Performs other duties as assigned and in accordance with this PWS

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work Schedule: Neonatal Intensive Care Nurses RNs: Normal duty hours for the positions shall be 0700-1930, 1100-2330 and 1900-0730 for the 12 hours shifts. Monday thru Sunday to include weekends and Holidays.
  • The HCWs shall record the time worked and report time in accordance with MTF policy
  • Federal Holidays are considered work days. Not included in, or billable as work hours are lunch/ break periods, vacation/ sick leave (80 hours) are continuing medical education (CME) training attendance (up to 40 hours per year per FTE)
  • All leave/ absences during normal work hours will be coordinated with and approved by the MTF Activity/ Department head/ supervisor

Requirements

 

  • Current, full, active, and unrestrictive license to practice as a Registered Nurse is required
  • 2+ years experience working in the NICU as a Registered Nurse required
  • Associate Degree or Baccalaureate Degree from the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).
  • Current CPR certification (American Heart Association)
  • Current BLS certification (American Heart Association)
  • Current NRP-Advanced certification
  • Current STABLE certification
