POSITION TITLE: HDD Sales Engineer

REPORTS TO: HDD Sales Manager
POSITION PURPOSE/MISSION: The Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) Sales Engineer will be responsible for driving sales and business development efforts within the HDD market segment. This role combines technical expertise with sales skills, requiring a deep understanding of HDD technologies, equipment, and processes. The Sales Engineer will work closely with customers and internal teams to identify business opportunities, provide technical solutions, and achieve revenue targets. This position is primarily remote and will require travel across the western United States with limited on-stie presence.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
A. SALES AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
1. Identify and target potential clients in the HDD industry, including contractors, infrastructure developers, and utility companies.
2. Develop and maintain a sales pipeline by researching market trends, identifying business opportunities, and establishing relationships with decision-makers.
3. Prepare and deliver technical presentations to clients, demonstrating how HDD equipment and services meet their specific project needs.
B. TECHNICAL CONSULTATION
1. Provide expert technical advice to clients on HDD products and solutions, addressing customer queries and advising on the best approaches for various drilling conditions.
2. Conduct needs assessments with clients, determining project requirements and aligning them with the right HDD solutions.
3. Work with engineering and product development teams to customize products based on client specifications.
C. PROJECT AND ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT
1. Manage all aspects of the sales cycle, from initial contact and negotiation to project delivery and follow-up.
2. Develop and maintain strong, long-term relationships with clients to encourage repeat business and referrals.
3. Collaborate with project managers and field technicians to ensure successful project execution, monitoring progress and troubleshooting any issues that arise.
D. MARKET ANALYSIS AND REPORTING
1. Monitor industry trends, competitor activities, and regulatory changes to remain up-to-date and provide insights to the sales team.
2. Provide regular reports on sales activities, revenue forecasts, and client feedback to senior management.
3. Contribute to sales strategy and planning by providing data-driven insights into market opportunities and challenges.
Position Challenges:

Organizational Relationships:
- Primary external contacts: HDD Dealers and Contractors, Product, Service, and Shop Managers, Parts & Service personnel, and Operations.
- Primary internal customers: HDD Sales Manager, Manager of Sales Administration & Analytics, Customer Service Representatives, Production Engineering and Program Management.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Technical Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably in Mechanical, Civil, or a related field. A combination of education and relevant work experience may be considered.
· Minimum of 3 years of experience in HDD sales, drilling operations, or a related technical sales role.
· Strong understanding of HDD technologies, processes, and applications, with the ability to translate technical information into customer value.
· Proven track record in sales and business development, with a network of industry contacts being a plus.
· Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

· Frequent travel to customer sites, project locations, and industry events will be required.
· Auto and air travel up to 75%.
· Will include time at drilling sites, requiring adherence to site regulations and safety protocols.
