Summary
The Vehicle Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of heavy equipment and vehicles including gantry cranes, forklifts, Tuckerbilts, end loaders, spotter trucks, air compressors, and diesel-powered equipment. This role requires a strong mechanical and electrical background, knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and the ability to work independently while maintaining high safety and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair heavy equipment and vehicle systems including gantry cranes, Tuckerbilts, forklifts, spotter trucks, end loaders, air compressors, and diesel engines
- Apply knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and diesel systems for troubleshooting and repair
- Read and interpret service and parts manuals, electrical and hydraulic schematics, and repair diagrams
- Complete assigned work orders and maintenance tasks efficiently and accurately
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance and repair activities
- Perform basic welding and fabrication as needed
- Maintain tools, equipment, and shop areas in clean, organized condition
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding repair priorities and completion status
- Be available for on-call maintenance needs as required
- Perform all other duties as assigned
- High school diploma or trade school equivalent required
- Minimum two years of hands-on experience in vehicle or heavy equipment maintenance
- Demonstrated expertise in diesel engine diagnostics and repair
- Strong understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and DC electrical systems
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and complete work independently with minimal supervision
- Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office applications
- Basic welding and fabrication skills
- Must have a personal tool set suitable for the position
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English; Spanish speaking highly desirable
- Willingness to complete third-party training courses as assigned
- Must exhibit strong judgment, organization, and time-management skills
Environment and Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift and move up to 50 lbs consistently
- Must be able to bend, climb, and work in physically demanding conditions
- Work performed in a plant environment with exposure to heat, humidity, and dust
- Full-time position, typically 40+ hours per week
- Must be willing to be on-call 24/7 as needed for maintenance emergencies
