Position Overview:
Job Title: Database Administrator
Job Location: Remote Missouri
Job Description:
We are looking for a team-oriented individual with a foundational understanding of database administration in Microsoft SQL Server and/or Oracle to join our team to support our client. We are seeking an individual who will play a critical role in supporting our client, and ensuring that database environments are optimized, secure, and reliable. We seek someone who is dedicated to fostering a positive team culture and committed to supporting organizational goals through database solutions that align with industry best practices.
As a Database Administrator, you will assist with database architecture and design, participate in enterprise-level initiatives, and contribute to the security, integrity, and performance of our database systems. You will have the opportunity to troubleshoot complex issues, lead projects, and work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders across our agency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Database Structure & Design: Assist in designing and structuring databases to meet client and enterprise requirements.
- Database Installation & Configuration: Install, configure, and upgrade Microsoft SQL and Oracle software for optimal functionality.
- Database Security & Integrity: Follow and implement security practices, policies, and procedures to ensure data integrity and compliance.
- Access & Availability Management: Manage user access and ensure appropriate permissions for a secure environment.
- Proactive Monitoring: Monitor database systems, applying patches, and performing necessary security updates.
- Database Backup & Recovery: Conduct regular database backups, recovery, and troubleshooting.
- Scripting: Write and maintain SQL, shell, and PowerShell scripts to automate and enhance database tasks.
- Performance Optimization: Assist in database performance tuning and optimization for high availability and reliability.
- Incident Response & Audit: Respond to incidents as a subject matter expert, and prepare documentation and responses for audits.
Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, related field, or equivalent experience.
- Experience: 1-2 years in database administration, ideally with exposure to both Microsoft SQL and Oracle environments.
- Technical Skills:
- Basic knowledge of SQL and database design principles.
- Familiarity with Microsoft SQL and Oracle database environments.
- SQL scripting, shell scripting, and PowerShell experience.
- Foundational understanding of database security, backup, and recovery protocols.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills to work with IT and agency staff.
- Ability to adapt and learn in a fast-paced environment.
Working Environment:
This is a high-paced, team-oriented role in which you will work on projects with limited complexity. Initially, you will be in a support capacity with close guidance from senior staff. As you develop, you will gain exposure to more complex projects and take on greater responsibilities within our database management framework.
