Our client is seeking a Senior Vice President of Safety. The Senior Vice President (SVP) of Safety will lead strategic initiatives to advance the safety-first culture across all operations. Key Responsibilities
This role demands a strategic thinker who can champion a culture of safety at every level within a broad network.
- Strategic Leadership: Drive the adoption of the Capacity Model, designing processes that balance resource allocation and risk mitigation to maximize workforce resilience and operational efficiency. The overarching goal is to improve culture and outcomes.
- Operational Excellence: Collaborate with regional leaders and field teams to adapt safety strategies to diverse project environments, ensuring the consistent application of capacity-based safety measures.
- Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management: Oversee adherence to federal, state, and local safety regulations, leveraging capacity modeling to eliminate PSIF and SIF events, mitigate compliance gaps, and proactively manage risk across all job sites.
- Training and Workforce Development: Lead the creation and deployment of training programs that equip Protectors and other staff with the skills to assess and expand safety capacity on the job, improving their ability to anticipate and respond to safety challenges.
- Data-Driven Safety Insights: Use data analytics and capacity metrics to track safety performance, applying insights from capacity modeling to reduce incidents and improve readiness. Leverage Smart Work Zone solutions and next-generation technologies to enhance safety practices.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with senior executives, regional managers, and operational teams to promote a culture of safety resilience. Represent in engagements with regulatory bodies and industry groups to further safety leadership in the field.
- Protector Integration: Provide oversight and thoughtful leadership to engage early with new companies and their protectors to implement the EHS integration process to quickly adopt the Safety Way.
- Experience: 12-15 years of progressive experience in safety leadership, focusing on utilities, telecom, traffic control, construction, or a related field. Previous executive leadership experience is preferred, with a focus on changing culture.
- Capacity Model: Relevant working knowledge and experience with the ability to articulate how the framework could be implemented across the business to improve Human Performance, Enhance Engineering Controls, and work towards eliminating PSIF and SIF Events.
- Expertise in Safety Standards: Extensive knowledge of OSHA, DOT, CCOHS, and industry-specific regulations, with a proven track record in implementing and managing large-scale safety programs.
- Leadership Skills: Strong leadership and team-building abilities, with 8 years of demonstrated experience managing teams across multiple regions.
- Data Proficiency: Ability to interpret safety data, identify trends, apply capacity model insights, and drive continuous improvement.
- Commitment to Innovation: Familiarity with advanced safety technology and engineering solutions, including traffic management systems and automated flagging assistance devices.
- Education: BS, Occupational Safety & Health, with Advanced Degree Preferred (MS, MBA, etc.)
Physical Demands of the job may include: Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Manual dexterity is needed for typing and other repetitive tasks. Must be able to speak in an accurate and detailed manner on the phone or in person. Moving about long distances and uneven terrain; Ascending and descending stairs and ladders; Remaining in a stationary position for a prolonged period of time; Working in extreme weather; Being exposed to loud noises; Wearing personal protective gear correctly most of the day.
Location of the job: The company headquarters is located in Canton, OH, however this position is remote and requires a high-speed internet connection and the ability to work remotely without distraction. Approximately 50% of travel to the Corporate Office in Canton, Ohio, and other locations throughout the United States and Canada will be required, and the ideal candidate will reside near a major airport.
