General Summary: 

Fresher Sacramento is a non-profit organization whose goal is to work with the youth population to generate health, wealth and life skills. This life experience educational program teaches participants how to promote, sell and distribute fresh fruits and vegetables as well as healthy, affordable prepared meals to friends and families in the community. 

The Prep Cook will be responsible for the preparation of ready to eat packaged meals. They will perform routine kitchen tasks such as setting up workstations, prepping ingredient lists, packaging & labeling meals, cleaning, and stocking.

 

Principal Duties & Responsibilities: 

Essential Functions:

Operations & Safety

· Complete the daily prep list created by Executive Chef 

· Label, stock, and organize all recipe ingredients so that items are easily accessible

· Measure ingredients according to prep list (including seasonings) for recipes 

· Basic cooking duties such as reducing sauces, parboiling food etc.

· Prepare simple dishes such as sides, salads, etc.

· Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen by washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, taking out trash, keep pantry and packaging organized, etc.

· Ensure all food and other items (like chemicals, packaging, and supplies) are stored and stocked properly

· Comply with nutrition, food safety and sanitation guidelines

Other related duties as assigned.  

Requirements

  

Qualifications:

· Basic understanding of professional cooking and knife handling skills. Understanding and knowledge of safety, sanitation and food handling procedures. Previous prep or line cook experience.

· A great attitude, team player, and committed to community Service

· Proven experience as prep cook with working knowledge of health and safety codes in the kitchen

· Manual dexterity able to operate cutting tools and various kitchen utensils

· Effective communication skills, and positive under pressure

· None

Work Conditions/Hazards: 

· Requires extended periods of standing, walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping and reaching. Must be able to stand 100% of hours worked. Must be able to transport up to 50 pounds on occasion and up to 35 pounds regularly. Must be able to speak, read and understand basic cooking directions.

· This work will be performed at the Pannell Community Center, and other locations.

Salary Description
$17.30 an Hour
