Arboriculture Coordinator and Climber

Job Summary: The Arboriculture Coordinator is responsible for leading the Arboriculture team in preparation, implementation, and completion of daily field work under the supervision of the Arboriculture Supervisor. Field work includes but is not limited to using sophisticated climbing and rigging techniques to work in tree canopies, pruning treetops, repairing damaged trees through trimming or removal, and using TRAQ techniques to mitigate tree risks. This position will also assist in maintaining specimen tree health through arboriculture practices such as integrated pest management, ground pruning, mulching, watering, etc. A strong knowledge of native tree species identification, proper pruning techniques and ANSI standards is required to fulfill this position.


Base Schedule: Monday-Friday: 6:00am-2:30pm; may adjust based on season.


Responsibilities and Duties Include:

· Under the guidance of the Supervisor, lead field operations using ANSI standards to oversee the arboriculture team in felling/pruning hazard trees, bucking tree material, mulching, watering, fertilizing, pruning, tree risk assessments, and other seasonal tasks.

· Safely prepare trees for removal or pruning using ANSI based climbing and rigging techniques.

· Safe and proper use of a large tree lift.

· Train and mentor technicians in Arboriculture techniques such as climbing/rigging techniques, chainsaw usage, ANSI safety standards, and tree health monitoring.

· Work with the Arboriculture Supervisor to develop tree risk assessments, mitigation plans, and specimen tree care schedules within the assigned areas of the Park.  

· Safely operate small and large equipment; UTV, dump truck, tree lift, skid steer, hauling trailer, chainsaw, and others as needed.

· Assist in the development of a tree healthcare program used during the establishment phase for newly planted trees.

· Through supervisor support, coordinate and direct employees’ regularly scheduled hours to prioritize required tasks within the park.

· Monitoring soil moisture levels and testing irrigation zones.

· Troubleshoot tree health decline, identify flora/tree pests, and track tree health using various data collection tools.

· Conduct work in a range of spaces including those adjacent to paths, roads, and in densely canopied woods.  

· Keep inventory of tools and equipment assigned to field operations.

· Communicate issues regarding infrastructure, furnishings, safety hazards, and quality of the Park user experience issues as needed via work order system.  

· Interact with Park patrons in a courteous and professional manner. Ensure team members are trained and adhering accordingly.

· Enforce and comply with all MPC rules, safety policies, and procedures, and appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

· Assist with other Park Operations teams, as needed. 

Requirements

  

Minimum Requirements:

· 2 or more years of professional pruning and felling trees.

· 2 or more years of experience managing teams in the field.

· Experience with professional tree climbing and rigging.

· Knowledge of native tree and pest species identification.

· Strong written and oral communication skills; strong time management and organizational skills; highly motivated. 

· Experience in arboriculture practices and usage of tools.

· Comfortable performing work tasks at heights while using proper PPE.

· Ability to effectively train employees on all aspects of the position.

· Proficiency in PC based Microsoft Office software; Word, Excel, Outlook, and asset management systems.

· Completion of the Tree Care Industry Association Chainsaw Specialist within the first 6 months of employment. Company Paid

· Ability to become an ISA Certified Arborist. Company Paid

· Knowledge of irrigation, a plus.

· Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.


Abilities Required:

· Ability to perform heavy, physical labor daily in all weather conditions.

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

· Ability to prioritize work functions and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

· Ability to lift to 50 lbs. repeatedly, throughout a given workday.

· Ability to operate power equipment throughout a workday.

· Ability to stand, crouch, and climb to use ladders and perform various types of manual labor throughout the day.

- This is an hourly, non-exempt position. Starting Pay is $20-$25/hour depending on experience.
