The Aquatics Specialist is responsible for all aspects of pool and/or waterfront programming including boating and fishing. This includes planning, preparation, and risk management. They will create safe, age-appropriate, adaptive programming for campers aged 8-17 years old. This staff member will oversee and support hourly lifeguards with the completion of daily tasks.
Team Overview:
The Program Team brings the camp experience to life by creating programs, building community and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all camp participants. The team creates accessible and developmentally-appropriate programs and recruits, processes, and supports a large team of volunteers and seasonal staff. In adherence with laws and camp governing bodies; they develop, plan and implement camp emergency procedures and policies.
Responsibilities:
- Attend Seasonal Staff Training (May 27, 2025 - June 4, 2025)
- Oversee the management of all aquatics areas in absence of Aquatics Manager (boating, fishing, swimming)
- In conjunction with the Aquatics Manager, coordinate lifeguard schedule to ensure aquatics and waterfront programs meet minimum staffing requirements
- Implement educational-driven programming for aquatics and waterfront programs and other program areas as needed
- Assist in the modification and adaptation of all aquatics activities due to inclement weather, medical needs, psychosocial needs, and other variables
- Ensure preparation of daily open/close checklists, inventory of supplies, accident/incident reports, and hourly lifeguard timesheets
- Oversee and perform daily pool cleaning and record chemical levels
- Participate in and oversee weekly lifeguard skill checks and in-service trainings as directed by the Aquatics Manager
- Assist the Cabin Life team with maintaining appropriate supervision of campers, including providing overnight coverage in cabins as needed
Required Skills, Qualifications & Experience
- Ability to move across camp grounds and between buildings and activity areas multiple times each day
- Ability to perform job functions outside during summer months (humidity, heat, rain)
- Hold or obtain valid Lifeguard & CPR for Professional Rescuer Certifications
- Ability to implement a multi-faceted program for campers aged 8-17 years with varying physical and developmental abilities
- Strong understanding of waterfront risk management and emergency planning while keeping safety first in all situations
- Ability to manage a detailed schedule for a large team
- Ability to live on site
- Ability to support with program set up and tear down (including movement of materials up to 50 lbs.)
Preferred Skills, Qualifications & Experience
- 1 Year experience as a lifeguard or prior lifeguard certification preferred
- Boating, canoeing, or fishing experience preferred
