Job Summary


Responsible for managing and coaching the Simulation Research & Development Team to create all sustainment and continuous improvement tooling required by the business to produce all simulation products. The individual will have expertise in required prototyping, moulding, sculpting and manufacturing process designs. The individual will be responsible for acting as project lead on all simulation new product introductions, as well as provide leadership to the department They will work with the wider Safeguard Medical group to pitch, design, and implement new products that align with the company catalogue, goals and objectives. They will manage all product process changes ensuring they are thoroughly tested. They will act as support for issues manufacturing within production, advising on repairs, customer complaints and using composite material knowledge to find solutions to defects. Job holder to promote and adhere to the company values of quality and compliance with current legislation. 

Requirements

  

Essential Job Functions 

• Acts as a lead or assists project leaders in the definition, planning, and requirements of new or updated products. 

• Delivers on-time, on-quality, and on-budget project tasks. 

• Manage the overall development of the R&D team members and the project schedule including Sustainment Projects, Continuous Improvement Projects and New Product Introductions. Maintain required documentation of processes and products.

• Work with production to ensure all tooling requirements and updates are completed.

• Provides leadership to team of direct reports including coaching and professional development, performance review, administrative tasks associated with timekeeping and payroll, staffing, recruiting, and other human resource related functions. 

• Assists Engineering to develop and maintain product and/or process documentation (BOMS, work instructions, etc.) 

• Manage the Quality Changes Register to test and approve/reject any suggested production changes, ensuring all suggested changes are documented and tracked.

• Work with supply chain to ensure materials and components purchased for production are on budget and meet quality standards.

• Responsible for working with the complaint team to diagnose solutions for all complaints received and conduct reports/repairs on returned items.

• Support production with any manufacturing issues and conduct training on new processes and products. 

• React to business needs by adjusting project schedules and having a flexible attitude.

• Working with Product Manager and Project Manager to develop and deliver new product introductions that are on time and on budget.

• Manages and prioritises daily tasks /work of self, team and those on project team. 

• Identifies and mitigates project and design risks throughout the project plan. 

• Communicate clearly and effectively with your team members to ensure all agreed objectives and quality targets are achieved. 

• To act decisively and report staff or equipment-related problems and/or report issues to management. 

• Ability to work under pressure and motivate others to meet tight production and customer delivery schedules. 

• Ensure health and safety regulations are met. Report any issues of concern to management or the Employee Nominated H&S Representative. 

• Produce material schedules for information with respect to pricing and procurement. 

• Attending relevant training sessions in cooperation with management. 

• To support with contracted training events as or when required – may require working weekends. 

• To empower and lead the team through strong clear and open collaboration, being focused and committed, learning together and teamwork. 

Qualifications 

• Technical knowledge and understanding of the medical industry.

• Computer literate & experienced in Microsoft Office applications. 

• Degree Qualification or equivalent desirable. 

• Relevant NVQ or industrial / professional qualification considered. 

• Experience with composite materials, moulding, process designs, sculpting and documentation.

• First Aid Qualification preferred. 

• Experience with 3D CAD/design software, such as Fusion 360 from Autodesk and Solidworks, or similar 3D printing would be an advantage. 

• Good knowledge of human anatomy preferred
