Western Tidewater: Isle of Wight area to work Monday – Thursday 7:30AM to 3PM (32 hours)
Western Tidewater: Tuesday – Friday 9AM – 4PM (28 hours)
The Driver is responsible for safely transporting clients from one place to another for medical appointment, congregate meals, business, shopping, or recreational destinations, and returns trips home. The Driver reports directly to the Transportation Supervisor.
TYPICAL TASKS
- Operates passenger van, wheelchair van or car and picks up elderly and disabled persons and assists them in and out of vehicles
- Delivers meals to wellness centers
- Ensures vans, cars and coolers are properly cleaned, fueled and maintained
- Ensures safety of customers, the general public, and themselves by practicing safe door to door service and defensive driving skills
- Enforces and follows sanitation and health regulations
- Notifies transportation supervisor or dispatches of unusual events, emergencies, customer incidents and accidents in accordance with established agency policy and procedures
- Attends required education and training programs
- Performs clerical/computer tasks as needed, to include entering time worked into timekeeping system and completing annual compliance modules
- Attends mandatory quarterly staff meetings (held on Saturdays)
- Performs additional tasks as required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
· General knowledge of the principles and practices of operating and servicing vehicles
· Versed in traffic laws and regulations governing van operation
· Skill and care in the operation of the equipment
· Able to comprehend and follow oral and written directions
· Works well independently on assigned tasks
· Communicates clearly with co-workers, leaders, clients, and the general public
· Capable of making decisions with minimal supervisor by prioritizing and organizing duties
Basic computer skills, including email, electronic time keeping
· Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. on a repetitive and frequent basis and up to 50 lbs. occasionally
· Requires frequent reaching, balancing, and/or pushing to assist persons in and out of agency vehicles
· Ability to safely handle persons of varying weights and heights who are mobile, utilize walkers and canes, or are in wheelchairs
· Requires agility to repetitively climb in and out of agency vehicles on a frequent basis
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
· High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma is required
· One (1) year experience in the operation of motorized equipment
· Must possess a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record with a +2 or above point balance
· Able to pass a background check and drug/alcohol screening
