St. Croix Health is seeking a qualified, motivated individual to join our team as a casual Life Safety Class Instructor.  


As a casual Life Safety Class Instructor, you will have the opportunity to teach courses on a periodic, as-needed basis. This position offers flexibility with class scheduling based on St. Croix Health's needs, making it a great fit for individuals seeking occasional work. 

  

The Life Safety Class Instructor will lead and educate participants in life safety techniques and emergency response procedures. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, a commitment to teaching, and a thorough understanding of the class(es) they teach. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging life support training programs in accordance with established guidelines (e.g., American Heart Association (AHA), Emergency Nurse’s Association (ENA)). 
  • Use various teaching methods (e.g., lecture, demonstration, simulation, repeat demonstration) to ensure participants gain confidence in life support techniques.
  • Assess participants’ skills through written tests and practical evaluation.
  • Maintain current instructor status for each class Instructing. 
  • Provide constructive feedback and support to students
  • Foster a positive learning environment.
  • Ability to explain complex concepts in an understandable manner.
  • Prepare and maintain training materials and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate record-keeping and compliance documentation processes for students.
  • Stay informed of industry advancements.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and support teamwork among participants.
  • Awareness of diverse populations and the ability to teach in a culturally sensitive manner.
  • Understanding of how cultural factors may influence emergency response and care.
  • Explain complex concepts in an understandable manner. 
  • Skilled in conflict resolution and foster a supportive learning environment.
  • Impart the importance of teamwork and communication in emergency response scenarios.
Requirements

Education & Licensure: 

  • Associate’s Degree in healthcare field required
  • Must maintain certification as an instructor in classes they will teach that are developed and maintained by a nationally recognized organization (e.g., AHA, ENA, etc.). 
  • Current Basic Life Support required

Experience:

  • Two years experience in teaching or training in a healthcare or emergency response setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in educational technology and learning management systems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

  • Culturally competent and sensitive to the diverse needs of staff and patients. 

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasional periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Prolonged periods of standing, bending, and reaching
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times
