Job Overview: The Intern, Application Engineer will assist the engineering team in designing, testing, and maintaining systems and equipment used in the marine and power generation industries. This role provides hands-on experience in real-world projects, exposure to cutting-edge technologies, and an opportunity to contribute to the development and optimization of high-performance systems.

  • Location: 7215 S. 228th St, Kent, WA
  • Position: Intern – College student completing their 2nd or 3rd year in an Engineering program (Note: No affiliation with the university and college credit may or may not be offered)
  • Internship Duration: 2 to 3 months
  • Expected Start Date: Spring 2025


Key Responsibilities


Project Support:

  • Assist in the design, development, and testing of mechanical and electrical systems for marine vessels and power generation equipment.
  • Support the preparation of technical drawings, calculations, and specifications using engineering software.
  • Contribute to the analysis and improvement of system efficiency, reliability, and safety.

Research and Development:

  • Conduct research on materials, technologies, and industry trends related to marine and power generation applications.
  • Perform data collection and analysis to support ongoing projects and experiments.
  • Collaborate with team members to develop innovative solutions for customer requirements.

Team Collaboration:

  • Work closely with engineers across disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, and structural teams.
  • Participate in team meetings, offering insights and progress updates on assigned tasks.
  • Provide support during system installations, commissioning, and troubleshooting processes.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Prepare technical reports, documentation, and presentations based on project findings.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records of work activities and outcomes.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and quality assurance protocols.

Hands-On Support:

  • Participate in site visits to shipyards, power plants, or testing facilities, as needed.
  • Support the maintenance, repair, and testing of mechanical and electrical equipment under supervision.
  • Learn and apply engineering best practices in real-world scenarios.
Requirements

Qualifications and Skills


Education and Experience:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of marine systems, power generation, or energy solutions is a plus.
  • Previous internship, project, or academic experience in relevant industries (preferred).

Skills and Competencies:

  • Familiarity with engineering tools and software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, MATLAB, ANSYS).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and manage time effectively.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges.

Other Requirements:

  • Availability to work 40 hours per week during the internship period.
  • Ability to travel to project sites or facilities, if required.
  • Understanding of safety standards and regulations in the marine or energy sectors is a plus.

Salary Description
