Description

Elixir is seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Technical Writer to join our Product Training Team. This role will focus on creating user-friendly, humanized technical documentation that empowers our users to quickly adopt product features and provides clear, accessible information. The Technical Writer will craft technical user guides, release notes, and installation guides, as well as collaborating with Instructional Designers on training-related resources. Knowledge of adult learning principles and how they inform effective documentation is a key asset for this role.   


Essential Functions 

Under the general supervision of the Managing Director, Product Training the essential functions include:   

  • Develop, write, and maintain high-quality technical documentation, including user guides, release notes, installation guides, and more that are tailored for different user audiences
  • Partner with instructional designers to contribute to training resources, ensuring consistency in messaging, accuracy in instruction, and alignment with user needs
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) and cross-functional roles in Product, Engineering, Quality Assurance, Technical Support, Implementation, and Customer Success to gather technical information, cultivate robust product knowledge, and ensure accuracy in documentation
  • Apply principles of adult learning to create user-centric documentation that enhances understanding and ease of use
  • Continuously review and update existing documentation based on product updates, user feedback, and changing requirements
  • Ensure all documentation is aligned with business goals, brand standards, quality standards, and uses plain language and a humanized approach to technical writing
  • Stay current with documentation technologies and methodologies, recommending new tools and approaches to enhance content delivery

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts clearly and effectively to diverse audiences
  • Ability to quickly gain and maintain in-depth knowledge of our product, becoming a subject matter expert capable of identifying discrepancies, errors, or areas for improvement
  • Strong attention to detail, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and completeness in all deliverables
  • Ability to handle multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines while managing stakeholder expectations
  • Ability to write with empathy, considering the needs and skill levels of the end user and adjusting style and approach to the audience
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and how they inform user-centric documentation
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Software Engineering, Communications, Technical Writing, English, or a related field 
  • 3+ years of experience in technical writing, with a focus on creating user guides, release notes, and installation guides for software or technology products
