JF&CS is now seeking a full-time Parent Coach.
PURPOSE:
The Parent Coach provides guidance and support to caregivers of children and adolescents including those experiencing complex mental health conditions, such as ADHD, depression, anxiety, and/or challenges with executive functioning. This non-clinical position will provide evidence-based essential skills, best practices, and ideas needed to gain support for a variety of parenting issues.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Help finding effective ways for parents to address behavioral and emotional issues with their children.
- Explore self-care options with parents/caregivers.
- Teach research-based best parenting practices with regards to homework, electronics and exercise.
- Provide strategies that support children and adolescent’s physical, emotional and social development.
- Help create a plan to address childcare issues or educational problems.
- Promote an open and honest relationship with parents.
- Provide direct individualized support to clients during one-on-one sessions.
- Conduct a minimum of 18-20 individual coaching sessions with parents.
- Assist parents with self-advocacy skills, such as emailing teachers or requesting accommodations.
- Help parents find a system of organization that works best for their child.
- Document and communicate progress reports.
- Guide parents and caregivers to relevant and appropriate community resources.
- Facilitate resources and services with HZ Center clinicians and Family Navigator.

- Understands the difference between psychotherapy and coaching.
- Experience coaching children, adolescents and/or parents in a therapeutic environment.
- Strong ability to personally relate one-on-one with each caregiver and build solid relationships.
- Experience with crisis response.
- Must be able to work collaboratively within a team.
- Flexibility in scheduling which may include off-business hours, including after school, evening, and/or on weekends.
- Flexibility to attend school IEP meetings as needed.
- Experience working with students with thinking/learning differences.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to personalize coach to each caregiver’s learning style.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- High integrity when dealing with a broad array of cultures, lifestyles, behaviors and spiritual practices.
- High integrity when dealing with restricted and/or confidential information.
- Ability to deal therapeutically with behavioral and emotional problems presented by young people.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries with clients while building trust and respect.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study required.
- Certified Coach and/or Master’s Degree in mental health field preferred.
- Work experience in community-based health care service capacity highly preferred.
