The Parent Mentor Program (PMP) is a nationally recognized best practice in parent engagement for low-income communities, first developed by Logan Square Neighborhood Association in 1995. The Parent Mentor Program as a structured avenue for building parent involvement in schools, parent-teacher relationships and for eventually leveraging community resources and support for the schools.
Job Summary:
Parent Mentor Coordinators (PMC) are parents who serve as the point overseers of the Parent Mentor Program (PMP) at their assigned school. Their role is to supervise, support, and mentor the Parent Mentors assigned to the classrooms. They are also the point person for the teachers and school administration. They also build a strong base of parent leaders in their school. The PMC will work with Enlace organizers, existing membership base and other constituents to strengthen relationships and continue to engage members and partners in meaningful initiatives related to the development of their community. They will be employed by Enlace Chicago but are housed at each school.

Status: Part-Time/ Seasonal
Term of the Agreement: December 01, 2024 to June 30, 2025
Primary Job Functions:
- The Parent Mentor Coordinator will be responsible for implementing the Parent Mentor Program (PMP) at their assigned school.
- The PMC will recruit a cohort of Parent Mentors for the school for 2024/2025 school year.
- The PMC is responsible for the supervision of the PMP in collaboration with Lead PM Organizer.
- Ensure PMs are in compliance with Enlace Chicago and school district Safety Policies.
- In collaboration with Lead PM Organizer, all PMCs are required to plan and facilitate initial PM training and weekly workshops, reflections, or planning sessions for their local schools throughout the school year. And ensure their parent mentors attend weekly training sessions provided by PEI and Enlace Chicago.
- Conduct observation of in-person classroom work or virtual sessions for each parent mentor at least once per semester.
- All necessary paperwork and data must be submitted before or by its due date. These include: Monthly Reports, Program evaluations (e.g Pre and Post Surveys), PM time sheets and all other forms / paperwork required for the program and or requested by PEI and Enlace Chicago.
- PMC will submit necessary documentation for PM stipends once they meet the requirements laid out in the PM contract. PMC must complete and turn in check receipt forms to Enlace Chicago for all parents mentors that receive stipend.
- All PMC are required to attend all PEI statewide as well as Enlace Chicago meetings and training.
- The PMC will be responsible for engaging parent mentors in community leadership beyond the classroom. This may include the successful execution of one Beyond the Classroom event to build the community organizing skills of parent mentors.
- Support, motivate, and build leadership and unity in the parent mentor cohort.
- Work collaboratively with other organizers from Enlace Chicago.
- Attend weekly check-ins with the Parent Organizer and other Parent Mentor Coordinators; attend other Enlace meetings and events.
- Each PMC must be accountable to his/her responsibilities and must act with the highest level of professionalism, must communicate regularly with the PMP Organizer and the Enlace Chicago PMP Team, and must demonstrate a strong commitment to the success of the program.

- Effective communication and organizing skills (both community and administrative); i.e. strong writing, research and presentation skills
- Highly motivated, dedicated, self-starter, and detail oriented
- Must have a flexible schedule. This position may require evening and some weekend hours.
- Computer literacy a plus (Google and Office Suites preferred)
- Bilingual/ bicultural Spanish/English a must
Working Conditions/Demands:
Local travel involved. Ability to transport 15-20 lbs of outreach material. Ability to work flexible hours, including on evenings and weekends.
