JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Medical and Administrative Director the Medical Technologist II the (MT II) for Transfusion Services is responsible for the prompt, efficient, and accurate performance of all work within the Blood Bank Department. Assures safe and applicable transfusion of blood products by maintaining the standards set forth by the American Association of Blood Banks, by coordinating products available with patient needs, and by supervising Blood Bank Technologists and Technicians. Is competent to work with all age groups. Safely manages the environment of care.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for policies and procedures in cooperation with the Administrative Laboratory Director and LIS coordinator to ensure prompt, efficient, and accurate testing results.
  • Collects, reviews, and submits for approval all the quality control, monitoring of QC, validations, correlations, monthly preventative maintenance departmental forms and patient testing results to the Administrative Laboratory Director
  • financial responsibility when evaluating new products and stocking inventory.
  • Collaboration with physicians and the laboratory administrative staff on all aspects of patient care.
  • The BB CLS-MT II is responsible for laboratory leadership, teaching and supervision of all laboratory staff that work within their area of supervision.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience:

  • 5 years active Blood Bank Experience

Education:

  • B.S. in Medical Technology, chemical, physical or biological science.
  • Licensure/Certifications:
  • MT(ASCP) or equivalent registration preferred.
  • Knowledge of Tissue and Blood Product transfusion guidelines as outlined by AABB, CAP, CLIA and JCAHO.
