The Plant Controller at Stella & Chewy’s will oversee financial operations across three manufacturing locations. This role is critical in managing the financial health of our plants, ensuring accurate cost accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting. The Plant Controller will report directly to the Senior Director of Accounting & Treasury and collaborate closely with FP&A, operations, supply chain, and executive management to drive financial performance and operational improvements.


Essential Functions include the following.  

  • Oversee the maintenance of the standard cost system, including manufacturing accounting, variance analysis, and accurate Formulas (aka, Bills of Materials (BOMs)) within an integrated ERP environment.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of cost accounting functions, including current costing rates, yield analysis, labor reporting, monthly close processes, and performance analysis against expectations.
  • Partner with Ops engineering to drive financial improvements using findings from the performance analysis and through execution of annual business plan initiatives.
  • Lead the annual cost roll process and update product costing for all existing SKUs and product categories for both internal and externally manufactured product lines.
  • Review cost estimates for new or special products used to establish selling prices and ensure targeted gross margins are met.
  • Develop and implement in conjunction with operations appropriate inventory controls including a robust cycle count process and lead with operations, the annual year-end physical inventory counts.
  • Establish a periodic production order reconciliation process to identify material and production variances, tracking production yields by manufacturing process, and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with Operations and Supply Chain to ensure the accuracy of Bills of Material with regards to current and up to date production formulas.
  • Prepare and communicate financial and operational reports to management, including ad hoc financial analyses.
  • Develop financial analysis tools to support management decisions on production improvements, capital expenditures, and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Lead or participate in business initiatives and special projects aimed at enhancing financial and operational efficiency.
  • Lead the development of annual budgets, periodic forecasts, and multi-year strategic plans for all aspects of operations and supply chain activities.
  • Provide guidance and support to direct reports through mentorship, fostering professional growth and enhancing collaboration to achieve corporate and professional goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Accounting leadership or operations/supply chain management.


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
  • 4+ years of accounting experience in progressive roles within the manufacturing industry.
  • Proven experience in manufacturing cost accounting is required.
  • Strong business acumen with analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience presenting financial information to management.
  • Excellent analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proficient in using an ERP system and Microsoft Office, with advanced expertise in Microsoft Excel.
