- Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas has offices in Austin and San Antonio that are open for use by all staff. This position will have the flexibility to work remotely/from home but will be expected to work in-office at least two days a week and some weeknights/weekends for in-person activities, such as event support, wish events, and team bonding activities.
- This role is based out of our San Antonio Regional Office (1931 Northwest Military Hwy, Suite 210, San Antonio, TX 78213).
Position Summary
The Development Manager is responsible for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas’s signature events and third-party fundraisers in the San Antonio and Laredo regions of the chapter territory, with a revenue goal of $600,000+ annually. This position also recruits passionate volunteer leadership for each event committee and maintains volunteer engagement throughout the event cycle. It is in coordination with these volunteer committees that the Development Manager directly solicits event sponsorships and gifts from corporations and individuals.
The ideal candidate has 3+ years experience with nonprofit fundraising and enjoys cross-team collaboration, cares deeply about volunteer relationships, and has strong project management skills. This position will play a critical role in meeting the organization’s overall fundraising goals.
Position Responsibilities
- In conjunction with the Chief Development Officer and Director of Development, set and meet event revenue goals while personally taking prospective donors through the entire fundraising journey including identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
- Lead prospecting and donor research for event sponsors and donors.
- Strategize and implement cultivation techniques to inspire prospective supporters to become donors.
- Provide leadership and oversight for all event committees ensuring successful outcomes of assigned tasks and responsibilities and sustainable volunteer engagement over time.
- Work with Chief Development Officer and Director of Development to build a pipeline of committee leadership and involvement.
- Manage all event logistics including location, auction, program production, communications, and all other details necessary for efficient implementation, collaborating across departments as necessary.
- Collaborate with communications and development staff to create strategically segmented lists and reports related to event attendees and outcomes.
- Provide ongoing reports and feedback about event outcomes and suggested improvements for meeting event revenue goals.
- Serve as the liaison for all third-party events in assigned region, ensuring that all events are approved, adhere to MAW CSTX guidelines, and maintain organizational brand integrity.
- Cultivate and steward third-party fundraisers to strengthen and grow existing relationships and identify new contacts within the region.
- Research opportunities and network within the community to find new opportunities for funding and engagement.
- Develop, manage, and implement cultivation and solicitation strategies for corporate and individual event giving.
- Collaborate with mission department to enhance relationships with corporate and individual donors through wish impact engagement opportunities.
- Maintain accurate record keeping for all contacts and related interactions in Salesforce.
- Provides effective internal communication across the organization about all MAW CSTX events and opportunities in assigned region for staff participation.
- Champion the MAW CSTX mission at meetings, community events, conferences, and fundraising events to effectively engage participants in conversations about our mission and inspire involvement.
- Adheres to all Make-A-Wish America performance standards and Chapter internal controls, policies, and procedures.

- Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years professional fundraising experience on a nonprofit development or equivalent professional experience.
- A passion for the mission of Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas.
- Proven track record of strong volunteer management abilities.
- Relationship management experience - demonstrating the ability to work one-on-one with new and existing donors through site visits, donor stewardship calls, and in-person meetings.
- Experience implementing and managing a year-round high-touch donor stewardship program.
- Experience developing and organizing fundraising events, preferred.
- Demonstrated ability in clear and effective written and oral communication.
- Displays professionalism and quality customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and problem solve when necessary.
- Strong project management skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate when appropriate.
- Ability to function well in a fast-paced environment and respond to/be flexible in rapidly changing situations.
- Ability to work collaboratively across the organization.
- Experience working and managing a donor database platform - Salesforce or comparable CRM.
- Required attendance at events in the early morning, evening, and/or weekends in support of the Chapter’s mission.
- Must have reliable mode of transportation to travel across chapter territory when needed. Position requires travel throughout the chapter territory and flexible hours.
- Proficiency in all Microsoft computer programs, including Outlook, Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
