What does our Paralegal do?

Our paralegals perform a variety of functions in support of the Firm’s family law attorneys and retained clients.

· Draft, read, and interpret sworn financial statements

· Review client financial documents for legal proceedings

· Draft, proofread, and review pleadings

· In consult with attorney, schedule hearings, conferences, mediations

· Prepare and submit court filings accurately and timely

· Communicate with clients, answer questions, request information and provide support as needed

· Ensure accuracy in billing, time entry, calendaring, and file management (electronic and paper)

· Prepare discovery and trial exhibits

· Maintain current knowledge of Colorado courts and local jurisdictions

· Calculate accurate deadlines and docket them using electronic calendaring systems

Requirements

What you bring to the team!

Education and Experience

· Associate’s degree or equivalent job experience

· 2+ years’ experience as a Family Law paralegal

· Ability to obtain Notary Commission Certificate

Knowledge/Skills:

  •  Ability to act as a strategic partner to attorneys, effectively coordinating and managing case workflows, communications, and priorities to ensure smooth and efficient progress 
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Well-developed skills in editing, proofreading, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and composition
  • Ability to anticipate problems, find solutions, and prioritize work accordingly
  • Ability to effectively manage a high-volume workload with critical deadlines
  • Ability to exercise a high degree of personal integrity, confidentiality, tact, discretion, and judgment
  • Technical Knowledge:
  • Preparing documents in accordance with rule 16.2
  • Drafting Motions, petitions, notices and sworn financial statements
  • Knowledge of discovery process
  • Trial preparation
  • Preparing exhibits and exhibit notebooks
  • Preparing witnesses
  • Calendaring multiple attorney calendars with hearings and deadlines
  • Proficient knowledge and experience using Colorado Courts E-Filing
  • Docketing and calendaring
  • Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Adobe and Excel
  • Math4Law (not required but a plus)

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times

WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly exposed normal business office environment. The ability to share workspace, travel by car or train, dress in proper business attire, attend meetings and meet deadlines are all requirements of this position.
