Description

The Forger is responsible for the set-up, adjustment, and operation of board type drop hammers of various sizes to form a range of products, while also directing a helper.  


Processes and procedures employees are expected to follow are located in the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for each machine and function the associates perform. All associates are expected to read and understand the SOP prior to utilizing equipment or performing job-related tasks. 


Typical job duties include:

  • Set- up and operate board type drop hammers or various sizes to forge a normal range of products involving the positioning and adjustment of upper and lower mating dies in hammer and trimming press by trial and error to maintain alignment grasping hot rod, square and shaped bars, usually of ferrous alloys by hand or with tongs, as necessary and manipulating to position from one cavity to another while operating hammer by means of foot treadle bar.  
  • Responsible for directing one helper and for heating of bars to proper forging temperature, inserting of new boards, in hammer as necessary and occasional checking of parts produced with fixed gauges to maintain quality standards, lubrication of hammer and press. 
Requirements
  • Requires the use of some measuring instruments and some trade knowledge which has been gained by working on related jobs. Equivalent to short term trades training.  
  • Considerable physical effort working with average weight materials where continuous strain of work position is involved in operating foot treadle for release of hammer while manipulating metal to position between dies.

21.09/hour
