Description

POSITION SUMMARY: 

Do you have a calming effect on kids? The AYCC is looking for someone who can teach mindfulness and communication skills to our kids. If you are a caring individual whose goal is to aid the children in the Waterville community, you could be a Youth Support Specialist! Teach the youth in our After-School program strategies that help them to adjust, grow, develop, and thrive while in our care. There will also be opportunity to participate in arts and crafts, games, and education programs with the children.    


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Support and coach counselors with training, behavior management and de-escalation strategies, and other programing needs.  
  • Respond to and work with youth who encounter challenges at the ASP.
  • As needed, responsible for a group of children, helping each child adjust and grow with other children within the program guidelines. 
  • Assist with all After-School Program activities and other activities as assigned.
  • Comply with and participate fully in the instruction of arts and crafts, games, and educational programs when appropriate.
  • Lead by example and directions, expressing importance of a) core values – respect, responsibility, caring, and honesty, b) student safety, and c) enthusiastic fulfillment of program objectives. 
  • Present mindfulness, wellness, and social-emotional curriculum ideas to staff and assist them in implementation with youth.
  • Assist ASP counselors with behavior management strategies and model appropriate interactions with youth.
Requirements

 KNOWLEDGE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field to childcare and/or child development. 
  • CPR/First Aid certification or be willing to become certified.  

 SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:

  • Excellent communication skills along with the skills necessary to work with groups of children made up of different ages and ability levels and provide necessary instruction. 
  • Emotional and mental maturity is mandatory along with training or skills in problem solving, behavior management, family communication, and child guidance. 
  • Ability, desire, and basic skills to work with children. 
  • Ability to observe student and staff behavior and assess its appropriateness, enforce relevant safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques.

Salary Description
16.00-$18.00 per hour
